Companions Overview
There are five different companion archetypes: Healer, Ranged DPS, Melee DPS, Melee Tank, and Ranged Tank. Each class gets one of each companion type (plus the ship droid who can heal). I have only done profiles for the Jedi Knight and Jedi Consular companions, but the abilities for each archetype are more or less identical, so if you want to see what abilities Bowdaar has, just look at the profiles for Qyzen Fess or Lord Scourge.
Each companion has two Crew Skill bonuses. Though the developers said some time ago during beta that they were going to remove these bonuses, they're still in the game at release. Efficiency bonus appears to reduce time for missions or crafting, and Critical bonus increases chances for critical successes in crafting (resulting in an item with an Augment socket) or critical successes in missions (which return extra or improved materials/items). It's not clear whether these bonuses have any effect on in-world gathering. Unfortunately, though the bonus types seem appropriate to each character's background, the majority of them are totally useless for the skills that most Jedi will choose.
