Then there´s a good chance he quickly dials "8" if necessary.
lol.. oh.. he's gonna need to dial it up more than that! 'snicker' {Patreon - Subscriber}
Edit 1#: Gah! Just noticed reviewing the next page at Patreon it was posted 2 years ago! Didn't realize how long I've been waiting to see the next page in color...!!
The thing is, if she did hit then its not even apparently marred by the impacts. If thats true, hopefully Alex immediately and reflexively dialed it up to 8, because otherwise he is screwed.
Humanity is superior...because we do drugs. 8-)
I admit, that's something I never found before in sci-fi.
Drugs per se do not appear that much (they are mentioned in a side sentence regarding the "Special Forces" (a.k.a. "Ghost Brigades"), but in "Old Man's War" humanity goes further than all alien adversaries in changing their soldiers to improve combat effectiveness.
Up to the point that one of the adversaries (who actually attack Human colonies to farm the colonists - they find Humans delicious) do not eat the Human soldiers because those are "green" and "not yet ripe for consumption". (Which is hilarious if you know the setup of the Colonial Union's army.)
But as is made clear early on: the Colonial Defense Force does it because it is necessary.
And I love how the series begins:

Yeah, I love what John Scalzi did with his ideas.
And the first week of being "in uniform" also sounded like fun.........
Recently I found out that there are more books to the series than I thought, so I have to read "Zoë's Tale" (in rough lines same story as "The Last Colony" - but from the teenager's view, together with a few things she did which was only alluded at in "The Last Colony" - and surely the story of her trip with "Hickory" and "Dickory" - but I'm not that far yet) and "The Human Division". And there's another book I'm waiting for delivery ("The End of All things")....
It's been so long ago, I re-read the "original trilogy" first...
Especially since John Scalzi announced at the end of it that he would very likely not return to this universe, and if, then not with Jane and John in it (who are the adopting parents of Zoë - so of course they're present).
