Arioch,

I just wanted to say that Spiral in panel 3 is the perfect representation of her face. She has the sly fox look I found so interesting from her concept art head study.

I'm just going to throw this out there, for those who haven't seen it before:

Chess.
I kinda wanna make a physical Crossfire set now. Just gotta find some Heroscape terrain and a 3D printer…
I bought a bunch of cheap chess pieces, and I'm going to print out a board and do some playtesting with family members.

Later in the story, there is a Crossfire match using a fancy traditional set, with a hill-shaped board with pegholes, and stylized pieces in the ancient theme. I may end up building the set in 3D to make the scene easier to render, and if so, it may be possible to 3D print actual pieces.
One of many options.

I did some more playtesting today, and found is was necessary to increase the strength of all of the Red team pieces by one. This means that the only way to begin the assault on the Red team is to attack with a King one on one against one of the Red Queens.

It may still be necessary to flip the arrangement of the Red units (because now the White player has the easier route for the White King to solo attack the Red Queen facing him, but we'll try it this way for now.

I wonder if magnetizing the board and pieces would suffice to frustrate telekinetic piece-swapping? There are magnetic chess sets IRL.

I don't think magnets would prevent pieces from being moved, and a magnetized board doesn't seem appropriate to an iron age culture.

It'd make them harder to move, and I was thinking about the present day.

The point was that it's a traditional form of the game. If you're in the modern era and you're worried about cheating you can just computerize it.

I'd think a magnetic board would mainly be useful for zero G or something

While the rules are not set in stone, I posted my notes here:

That's very cool. However, one questions then--why are you still using chess pieces, when nothing about this game seems related to chess?

They're placeholders; it doesn't matter what pieces you use.
