HA, glad to seem I'm not the only one who checks Sunday night!
Gotta wonder what gruesome end Fireblades relatives met that it's such a tough subject for her.

awkward
If every cloud had a silver lining, there would be a lot more plane crashes.
Re: Outsider 181: Foot-in-Mouth Disease
I note that Fireblade has gone on watch without her body armour (or at least without the outer layer). Not sure if this indicates she was in a hurry to leave the room or what.
Edit: quite a strong pose there from Tempo.

Well, pretty much any end which follows after some people say: “you know, we should kill them all” is terrible. Or “take all their children away so they can be brought up ‘properly,’” “ban the use of their language and culture” etc.Username wrote:Gotta wonder what gruesome end Fireblades relatives met that it's such a tough subject for her.

Re: Outsider 181: Foot-in-Mouth Disease
Again... I state that Alex does not behave in a fashion that indicates he has hatred for Fireblade, one does not try to engauge in cordial conversation with someone one hates. One does not care if one says something 'wrong' to someone they hate.

Re: Outsider 181: Foot-in-Mouth Disease
Alex does try to provoke responses, but this time he certainly crossed the line from 'trying to get response' to 'insensitive jerk'.
I am happy to see he is mature enough to regret his blunder.

Do I smell an apology page coming (Alex apologizing to Fireblade)?

The stern and unapproachable warrior woman has a vulnerability and tragic backstory? Tempo adds another brick to Alex's Stockholm Syndrome.

"Insensitive Jerk" over something he has no way of knowing about. Its like one expects him to be a mind reader.

Seriously the loroi know that he can't read minds but treat him like a jerk for not reading their minds it like he is dating some of them with the expectation that he be aware. I wonder what face hard troops was like for the civilians when the bugs attacked.
Re: Outsider 181: Foot-in-Mouth Disease
The last panel of this QC comic might forecast the Loroi's first and only successful attempt to read Alex.

Tempo saw that he wasn't intentionally hurtful and was quick to explain it to him that Seren is a loaded topic, especially for Fireblade. And Fireblade? She may feel uncomfortable discussing such matters with anyone, especially an irritating alien, even if she realizes that he was not being an insensitive jerk, but just ignorant.CrimsonFALKE wrote:Seriously the loroi know that he can't read minds but treat him like a jerk for not reading their minds it like he is dating some of them with the expectation that he be aware. Re: Outsider 181: Foot-in-Mouth Disease
You can unintentionally be an insensitive jerk - intentions do not undo hurt from actions or words. Alex was told that it is final war, most of it has been in Loroi territory, plus it was just mentioned there's only two of a pilot class left - in short, Alex talking about family was a very poor choice.asaenvolk wrote:"Insensitive Jerk" over something he has no way of knowing about. Re: Outsider 181: Foot-in-Mouth Disease
Their watch currently entails sitting in the dark cockpit, checking the instruments (mainly the comms systems for any interesting radio traffic, the life support, and any still running passive sensors), waiting for something to happen, than standing by, next to the docking hatch waiting for boarders any moment.kiwi wrote:I note that Fireblade has gone on watch without her body armour (or at least without the outer layer). Re: Outsider 181: Foot-in-Mouth Disease
Yep. So a human would be thinking “this is a job for the comfortable uniform and fluffy warm jacket.” But I understand the Loroi place special cultural significance on their caste body armour... in which case Fireblade going off without hers might indicate an unplanned departure.
Re: Outsider 181: Foot-in-Mouth Disease
I think each caste has its own pyjama. The body armor seemed to lack caste markings.
Now the real alien thing is the lack of pockets and zippers, which fresh recruits can keep in meticulous order and which veterans use to signal their closeness to discharge by the increasing state of disorder of.

No you can't, thats SJW bullcrap where if someone feels like your being racist towards them you "ARE RACIST".
To be insensitive one must first have something they could have seen and noticed, since he wasn't aware of her worlds situation and she didn't show any outward signs for him to pick up on he was not insensitive.
If he had noticed her leave and not noticed he apparently upset her then he could be called insensitive.

Re: Outsider 181: Foot-in-Mouth Disease
The Loroi have a society in which being insensitive is considered a virtue; it's a form of being honest. No one is angry at Alex for saying something about something that he could not have possibly known was a sensitive subject. And victimhood is not considered a Loroi virtue.
Alex hasn't exactly been polite to Fireblade, but... she wasn't exactly polite to him at their first meeting either.

This said, Alex has not exactly earned brownie points from Fireblade with his comment, right?
