The Terran Colonial
Authority (TCA) is a treaty organization formed in 2107 by the
Worlds of Humanity to manage
the colonial charter process, regulate interstellar trade and provide for the common
defense of Humanity. TCA forces comprise two arms: the
exploration vessels of the Scout Corps, and the defense and
patrol ships of the Colonial Fleet.
The destroyer-class
vessels of the Colonial Fleet perform routine spacelane patrol
and escort duties throughout Terran space. The larger
cruiser-class ships, too expensive to keep operational
full-time, spend most of their time drydocked at space stations
while their crews keep busy with training simulations. The
long-range vessels of the Scout Corps receive a large
percentage of the TCA's operational budget, often operating from
small outposts at the edge of known space, working to map
unknown star systems and push back the veil of the unknown that
surrounds Humanity. The Scout Corps is also responsible for
patrol and search & rescue in systems that are not on the
regular trade routes covered by the Fleet.
Colonial Fleet
vessels are mostly named after the nations and continents of
Earth and the other five worlds; often, prominent ships are
named after a nation as a political concession. Scout Corps
ships are named after famous explorers of the early colonial
period and prominent former members of the Corps.
Data
current
as of 17 May 2160 CE, at the time of the Bellarmine's departure
from Esperanza, 82 Eridani. This is
not an exhaustive list of human space-going vessels, but does include
all active military classes heavier than police frigates.
It does not include civilian vessels.
Many Terran vessels house weapons in turrets
with multiple mounts; in the entries below, "04x2" indicates four twin
turrets, with a total of 8 weapon mounts.

Note: *Victory still under construction.
ECS-201 was laid down as the America-class heavy cruiser
Antarctica, but along with ECS-180 India was cancelled
due to budget issues and the unpopularity of the heavy
cruiser program in a time of peace and prosperity. After alien
contact in 2158, both cancelled programs were crash-restarted, with ECS-201
receiving a substantial redesign. She has been lengthened by 55 m
(the extended bow replaces the hangar space sacrificed for the
Mjolnir module), with improved
engine power and heavier beam armament, and renamed Victory. |

Note: *India still under construction. As
civilian starships grew in number, size and power, the TCA's
response to deter potential conflict was the controversial
America-class heavy cruiser program. Six vessels were planned,
but only four were completed before funding of the program was
reduced. Because of their expense to operate, the heavy cruisers are
usually kept at dock and patrol duty is left to smaller vessels. In
2158, construction resumed on India, and America
became the first to undergo the "Mjolnir" conversions, in which the
forward ventral shuttle bay is replaced by a large spinal particle
beam cannon.

02 Missile Tubes 01 Anti-Missile Launchers Note:
The Centaur-class cruisers were the first formal heavy
military starships of the newly-formed Colonial Fleet, replacing the
makeshift armed freighters that had been pressed into service during
the Aldean Crisis. With the subsequent
introduction of the larger America-class heavy cruisers, the
Centaurs are now classified as light cruisers or patrol cruisers.
Though they are among the Colonial Fleet's oldest vessels, they are
reliable and comparatively inexpensive to operate, and so are still
the heaviest Fleet vessels commonly found on patrol.
