Starship Schematics has updated its Yamato section to include Earth, Gamilas, and Gatlantis ships and fighters from Yamato 2199/2202

The Yamato 2202 compellation film's release date has finally been announced (January 15th). It seems to be a film done in a documentary style to help tell the history of the Space Battleship Yamato universe up to and through 2202 (and 2203).

Also they provide a timeline for major events in universe. Including a few we didn't really have before. The first Mars landings, the Colonization of Mars. And the start and end of the Interplanetary Wars (which is the war the Earth's fleet that first encountered Gamilas was built to fight). The film is supposedly going to be made in a n in-universe documentary style production. Which is different. Sort of "Prelude to Axanar" style I guess.

I got access to a dubbed version of 2202, but I haven't watched past the first episode yet. It's a little wonky.

It is. The plot follows closer to the 1978 film "Farewell to Space Battleship Yamato" than it does the second TV series of Yamato. Along with some messages directed at modern 40+ Japanese citizens. But I liked it. Some things don't make sense in the middle because they hold the reveal until later in the show. However, if you wanted to see the Andromeda go all out...that happens. The Andromeda class gets a lot of love visually.

Nowhere have I seen the news welcomed as good. My last interaction with any of that was when Verizon punted Funimation off the FiOS network, so I really don't know what to expect.

Yamato 2205 (Chapter One) will be released in Japan on October 8th. It seem to be only a two part set of films at this point.

It seems to be introducing some of the background plot elements of the third series of Space Battleships Yamato (Yamato III (The Bolar Wars)) into the story line of A New Voyage (a TV movie that was set between the Yamato II (Comet Empire)) and Yamato III series.

Weird... New Voyage and Be Forever Yamato both had the "Black Nebula Empire" as villains, did they not?

I never watched the third series... I we got a few episodes in and the quality seemed really shabby... and the different voice actors didn't help.

The "Story" seems to suggests the background elements of Dessler's search for a new homeworld for his people. Finding one in Bolar space (in the Core Worlds of the Milky Way Galaxy) and fighting them for control of this world Gamilas will move to to survive. However, back at Gamilas and Iscandar, the Dark Nebula Empire appears to be making a move now as well. It would make some sense that the Gamilas outer borders would be a bit weaker now with the focus on the Bolar in the Milky Way and the threat of Gatlantis gone forever. So the main story should be a retelling of some of the plot points of New Voyage and possibly Be Forever, Yamato, but the backdrop information is the setup for the events of Yamato III and the Bolar Wars. The teaser made it clear that Gorba was going to be a thing and the music was definitely that of the Dark Nebula Empire.

Unlike previous stories we may have a few hero ships with the main characters on them (at least at the start).
We have Yamato (of course), with Kodai as captain. He is training a new batch of crew in preparation for the upcoming conflict Earth will likely be dragged into by Gamilas against the Bolar.
There is the carrier Hyuga, wtih Sanada as the captain (we think)
And finally the support carrier Asuka. I think Yuki might be in command of this ship.
Add to this Dessler's new red command battle carrier, and you have four hero ships at the beginning.
