[Fan Fiction] Notes and discussion for "A sword that wields itself"

An unexpected change of location but quite refreshing the tone of the story, are you planning a meeting with the top leadership of the union in the future?
Re: [Fan Fiction] Notes and discussion for "A sword that wields itself"
The Intermissions did hint at that possibility. I can also now implement a couple of unused ideas I've created for a D&D campaign.
I've planned for a meeting, yes. The only issue is that I have far less time to write, and therefore, the update schedule shifted to twice a month. So the audience before her Majesty the Azerein has to wait for a while. If everything went as planned, they would've met already.

I guess the nomadic loroi clans would be really dangerous to humanity with their reproductive speed and immunity to disease, it's sad that there is no more information about them, the very idea of a matriarchal horde is absolutely unusual to me.
Re: [Fan Fiction] Notes and discussion for "A sword that wields itself"
Yet somehow, it's the Loroi who were driven into the outlying wastelands, and are forced to live a harsh nomadic life. The "elves" and humans, on the other hand, built a settled, agricultural society, and managed to uphold it despite the hostile climate or nomad raids. Maybe there's indeed something to this "God" they worship. Or the Loroi are simply too busy with infighting, just as on Deinar in the ancient past.
There are several Intermissions which are from their point of view. Specifically, the Intermissions P, U and V.

Hope 11 months doesn't count as necro'ing
Just finished reading through the story — it's definitely an interesting take on the setting! I definitely didn't see the "Welcome to the Sword & Sorcery" shift coming, but I'm looking forwards to seeing where you go with it!

Yo, guys, I'm back from the dead, almost quite literally. Seems like I wasn't missed much, and I didn't miss much of the comic as well.
Anyway, how about some new chapters?

Wow, really neat to see this story picked up again! I'd just about written it off as lost (although come to think of it us Outsider fans should probably be used to long delays by now... ;D)
Re: [Fan Fiction] Notes and discussion for "A sword that wields itself"
Yeah, I had other issues to worry about, and I've lost my notes as well. The backup, too. Fortunately, my memory is quite good, so I was able to restore the plot and get it back on track.
Well, how about an intermission chapter on top of the two I already posted?

I was just gone for a year or so, the comic had experienced a 3-year hiatus. Or was it even longer? Anyway, I intend to finish this fanfic, at the very least.

Oh I knew you were absent. Surprised your back but glad you are.
I miss janesson's story the most (as it was just about to get into the action) and his characters were like a fun ragtag group of Loroi bad girls doing dangerous missions as a kind of penance or community service for past bad behavior. I loved Wildfire and the funny, dramatic, and psycho characters such as Emery (Emerald), Hot Pocket, and Hellion.

I already got enough surprises on my back, thank you very much.
You mean G. Janssen? Yeah, he somehow disappeared, a pity. Well, life can be an uncaring bitch sometimes, so I won't judge. Let's just hope that the orcas didn't get him.Bamax wrote: ↑Thu Jun 20, 2024 12:31 amI miss janesson's story the most (as it was just about to get into the action) and his characters were like a fun ragtag group of Loroi bad girls doing dangerous missions as a kind of penance or community service for past bad behavior. What I am missing the most are dragoongfa's excellent fanfics. He's still around, fortunately, even if he posts once a year or so.

Heh. Yeah, that's always a risk when posting fanfictions one chapter at a time. Circumstances can jump the author and leave the story half-done.
Personally, the Outsider fanfiction that I'm saddest to see die is "What to do with Jardin?" It's fun to see how the story evolved from crack-prompt into an actually very fun romp through the setting.
Anyways, on the topic of *this* fanfiction, I'm especially looking forwards to seeing where it's going. The "Ancient events/machines get slowly uncovered by modern explorers" plot has to be one of my all-time favorites in science fiction.

Well, I intend to finish the story, don't worry.
Yeah, that was some really funny stuff. Maybe it can be revived?
For the next chapter, the heroine will get a taste of the infamous "pucker-factor" first. After all, this fanfic is a role-reversal.
As to the ancient discoveries, not to spoil much, but those are never without any risks, and those who dig too deep, might find something. There was certainly a very good reason for the Fall. Or maybe not, the Soia simply could've had a fit, so they smashed their toys and moved on...

Even Holy Ones have some naughty desires. Tut tut!
Just to be clear, the world our heroes are on is inhabited by both humans and Loroi, correct?

Re: [Fan Fiction] Notes and discussion for "A sword that wields itself"
Yes, this world (Dellar/Oasis) is inhabited by Loroi, Humans, a few Mozerets and those "elves", the Tastadi (Founders). If the dream about the "dreadstar's" surreal collapse can be trusted, those were simply the crash-landed survivors. The "elves" established a settled civilization around their "Church", integrating the Humans and Mozerets. The Loroi, however, devolved just the same as their sisters on the 3 other worlds, dropping to the level of nomadic barbarians.

Re: [Fan Fiction] Notes and discussion for "A sword that wields itself"
Just read the latest section. Neat to see some more mental 'leaks' from one mind to another ("melor"). Looks like the next section should be especially interesting!
Re: [Fan Fiction] Notes and discussion for "A sword that wields itself"
With this chapter, I tried to reverse that pucker-factor. What could give a Loroi a bit of fright? The Human telepathy is a recent "invention", so they can't possibly trump the psionic space elves with skill. But power output, well, the Humans seem to have way too much of that. Perhaps that's actually required to overcome their natural lotai with brute force, and by some evolutionary quirk, they finally evolved to that level. Or a Soia failsafe finally failed, and something broke through.
Oh, yes, the dreaded melor. Just some silly superstition? The Perreinids are a rather weird bunch, maybe it's the 'shrooms. Or is there more to it...

Re: [Fan Fiction] Notes and discussion for "A sword that wields itself"
Hey, if I lived on a planet like Perrein with its wildlife that makes Australia look tame by comparison, I'd definitely think twice before assuming some horrifying legend/story was false! ;D
Re: [Fan Fiction] Notes and discussion for "A sword that wields itself"
Neat update, today! Amusingly, there are a few bits there which are similar to the current fanfiction I'm writing; I like where you seem to be going with these ideas! And while the High Priest seems to have pretty calmly understood "Yup, aliens" I think it'll be interesting to see how the local loroi react... especially given their own flavor of the Melor "myth."
Re: [Fan Fiction] Notes and discussion for "A sword that wields itself"
You mean the WH40 one?
Well, they already have several races living on this world. Their myths also implied the existence of even more races which the "gods" cared for, and it was even said that they were carried here from somewhere else. So, the priest simply reasoned that some of those races on other worlds could've survived. It was actually the same for the other Soia-Liiron races, as soon as they regained their civilization, they understood that they are the splinters of an ancient empire, and that there should be more "splinters" out there.
Melor, a weapon to surpass Metal Gear sanzai. The poor Loroi won't even know what hit 'em. Literally.
