Re: WIP Discussion (Part 1!)
Of course, but thats just no fun at all.
edit: before I forget, its also a bit dangerous. Modern pilots have become so dependent on their autopilots they do not respond correctly when they shut off or fail. Air France 447 comes to mind, but there are plenty of others.

Re: WIP Discussion (Part 1!)
I dont expect there to be room to turn the skiff around inside the ship, so I assume they come in backwards. Wonder how many dents and dings they see training for that.

Re: Anime Discussion
Though whether it would be possible to support Japan like this I don't know: I'm just pointing out a flaw in your analysis. Wanted to add: my numbers gave 18 minutes of rail time one way to fulfill Japans current iron ore needs. Gives 36 minutes round trip which I called a half hour. I figure its a...

Re: Anime Discussion
Went and got numbers for Japan's iron ore imports. Rough 10 million tons a month. If you ran the trains through at speed, you could supply Japan at current levels and consume about 30 minutes of transit capacity. Still 23.5 hours to transport other goods and personnel. Oh and I goofed on the Aussie ...

Re: Anime Discussion
You're confusing the issue here, which is that I was talking about how the author's politics drives a narrative that supports his own views at the expense of the story. You said they were talking about expelling foreigners and cutting off contact. I pointed out thats not what was referred to in the...

Re: Anime Discussion
No, the isolationism they're advocating for isn't the kind where a country minds its own business and keeps out of international affairs as America used to be at certain times and on certain issues, they're advocating completely cutting themselves off from the rest off the world, North Korea style,...

Re: Anime Discussion
I'll agree, as I pointed out, the political aspects are its weak points at times. But I have to take a moment of schadenfreude since its the odd case of the shoe being on the other foot. Quite often its an extreme left-wing nut on a soap box involved in the creation of various media. the fact ...

Re: Anime Discussion
If its a realistic depiction of war in jap media you're looking for might I plug Gate: thus the JSDF fought there. Avoid the anime, go to the light novel or manga but be warned -the manga can be graphic. It certainly pulls no punches about the damage an injury will do to a body. Also includes bad pe...

Re: Page 105 discussion
I find it difficult to believe you could steal the Captain's personal shuttle on a ship like that without the command crew knowing. And then there is the Loroi penchant for brutal honesty. Just not seeing that kind of duplicity. Tempo is a diplomatic officer. If this is a first contact situation, he...

Yes.Are you crazy?
What does that have to do with the well documented genocide/ethnic cleansing carried out by the Soviets?

Re: Did Russia win WWII?
One thing I havent seen mentioned here is how close the Germans got to Moscow and the few remaining factories the Russians did have in their first push. That push was delayed by a month by allied action and bad weather, was undermanned as the Germans split their forces, and rushed to completion so t...

Re: Religious Discussion
Some old dead dude once said, "You're wrong, but I'll defend to the death your right to be wrong." Yes, I just bastardized the quote, cope. The point stands, that freedom exists in being wrong, right? Would you agree that it is good and correct for a business to refuse service to someone who is gay?...

It is a book that condones or outright commands slavery, genocide, rape, murder, lying, cheating, stealing etc. Examples of this behavior are the growing attempts in many southern states to pass legislation which would allow those with “deeply held religious beliefs” to legally discriminate against...

That it was twisted out of context to suit those purposes is totally irrelevant to any point either of us was making. That is in fact central to the point he was making. You missed it. http://whistlinginthewind.org/2012/05/0 ... -5-racism/ <--- nope, no racism in the bible, no'siree. Ah the sword v...

Re: Religious Discussion
Far from being him completely wrong, that assertion is tenuous, at best and being generous. The assertion of the doctrine clearly does not come from the scripture you indicated, but from the vested interests who wanted it to be true and read their own will into the gaps. Which means he was correct, ...

Re: Religious Discussion
http://moses.creighton.edu/JRS/2005/2005-11.pdf I gave the study a look over and its deeply flawed. It pairs off "religiosity" and "dysfunction" and looks for correlations. It defines dysfunction through things such as homicide and abortion. The trouble is it treats the population of each country a...

Re: Religious Discussion
I'm working third shift these days and should set something like this out when I have more sleep. This isn't well fleshed out but the bones are there. Ok, ok. So here's my take on this in a more concise fashion. I look at history and see this: there were good men of faith and bad men of faith. There...

Re: Page 104 discussion.
Well, I'm pretty sure Tempo engineered her own egress from the very start, as seen in http://www.well-of-souls.com/outsider/outsider062.html . Frankly, why would someone schooled in the arts of diplomacy make a statement in the CO's earshot which can be counted as insubordination? Definitely a care...

Re: Page 104 discussion.
Thinking of it as a faux pas may be projecting human decorum onto her. Sanzai is characterized by brutal honesty, not holding back what one thinks. I think Beryl is just directly expressing the truth of her feelings without deception or reservation. Though she may have just been admonished by Tempo ...
