Re: [Fanfiction] Writing Prompt: For what dreams may come
Yes, dreams can be very strange. I thought they could be a good way to drop Tempo, unprepared, into some of the stranger aspects of the human subconscious. I’m currently working to put out the original planned ending for It’s Full of Stars, and may well pick up the more nuanced option Novius put dow...

Re: Miscellaneous Loroi question-and-answer thread
There is a significant difference between reading data from a device and writing to it. Yah. If you're decapping chips and imaging them down to atoms to do the reverse engineering then you know what was on them but they won't be usable afterwards. (I'm pretty sure an electron microscope works on Fl...

I don’t know what I would do about the Pocket Historian. I don’t know what Alex should do.
But from a dramatic perspective, it’s great that Alex has a choice to make.

It's full of stars pt 3 Well, I successfully managed to draft this without accidentally hitting 'submit.' I'll count that as a win. One of these days I may even pull out all the stops and proofread something :) Edit: added last minute idea to make it worse... or better? ----------------------------...

Re: Page 163: Mysterious hair grooming device
And directly asking what this actually is is a better choice with Loroi, since they might not understand the subtext of a question like "Is this what I think it is?" (well, Mizol might get it, but the others I'd be not so sure) I suspect the answer to that is "I don't know, I can't read your mind."...

Re: WIP Discussion (Part 1!)
Yes, and she was pressing her hand to her chest. That's (so far) a gesture distinctive to Tempo, and I'm not sure what it means. When we first saw it on Tempest's bridge, it went with a sort of apology for Alex's treatment. Maybe it is apologetic, or maybe it's some kind of duplicitous Mizol trick. ...

Re: Miscellaneous Loroi question-and-answer thread
I'm going to presume that the most nutritiously valuable food for Alex will end up being the Loroi equivalent to Mustard or Ketchup. Either that or some kind of tuber that the loroi consider highly toxic. I'm going to spend all day trying to come up with sauce puns now. In the mean time: A: "Oh no!...

Re: Miscellaneous Loroi question-and-answer thread
hi hi Railguns continue to not be very combat effective weapons in the Outsider universe. (Or really any universe with effective beam weapons.) Also, closing vessels don't need to have their main engines pointed in the axis of movement, they could rotate off axis and still close with their initial ...

Ahhh, the human method :-): "No one came back from the expedition. Let's send more." I was thinking to myself a while ago that the Orgus vessel would be absolutely swarming with scientists, engineers, engineering scientists* and one very grumpy anthropologist. I've been enjoying the fan fiction here...

Re: Page 162: Pleased to meet you!
I’m looking forward to Alex finding out about this mess :-). He may have entertaining thoughts and - if his control slips - joyous faux pas. I guess the chain of command on a naval ship is a little convoluted, the ships doctor having certain powers and the option of a flag officer, but not to that e...

Re: Page 162: Pleased to meet you!
Hmm, that's a tricky one. On the one hand, it's a transfer flight for a diplomatic mission, so Tempo's job. On the other hand, it's all gone to crap, so it might just be Talon's job, because it's happening on her bird. Loroi command webs look complicated; we've already seen what I presume to be a te...

Yah. Lots of energy. And some truly horrible nuclear waste lovingly laid down for us in the 50s by people who apparently never thought someone would have to deal with it. . (See Sellafield MOX silos. Hundreds of tons of fuel in decomposing concrete silos that must be kept underwater so the magnesium...

Re: How can the Loroi win?
It’s not helping the discussion, but at high tech levels, one could make essential elements if necessary. It’d be aggravating and produce radioactive waste, and have to be done at large scale, but I expect it could be done.
After all, that’s how we get plutonium.

I think Beryls already won this competition by finding some ration packs.
But shoes would have been very welcome on a chilly alien ship. Especially as the floor of the brig almost certainly isn’t carpeted.
