Re: Outsider RP

hi hi If I were to run my idea, it wouldn't be a terribly lengthy affair. I was thinking that besides chatter and such, I would try to propel the story forwards with 1-2 plot driving posts each week until the conclusion. The characters/actors would be the crews of the DeSoto and Innalinzil, who will...

Re: Planetary Invasion/Defense

hi hi If you can build a rocketship, you can necessarily build a projectile weapon. :P One thing tactic that might work for the humans would be to use decoys. Depending on the capabilities of the orbiting fleet, they might waste a lot of time going after fakes... but they're going to have to be pret...

Re: Page 81

hi hi The insurgent analogy might work if there was some kind of cover that the Umiak or the Loroi had available, forcing the Loroi to break cover in order to help the wounded craft or providing the Umiak some level of stealth. As it stands though, trying to recover survivors in the middle of a figh...

Re: Page 81

hi hi For a disabled ship, every shot is pretty much guaranteed to hit, where as the Umiak could fire dozens (or maybe even hundreds) of shots at a fully maneuvering Loroi ship and hit nothing. With a few shots they can remove the ship from their equations, compared to a few shots that will likely m...

Re: WIP Discussion (Part 1!)

hi hi Visually appealing characters is an interesting subject. I happen to like the character designs in outsider because they are reasonably attractive , but there are plenty of comics out there with characters that have such over idealized proportions that they become a little difficult to view......

Re: Page 81

hi hi I get the impression, from nothing but the shape of the weapons themselves, that they will split open and launch a bunch of sub-munitions once they're closer to their target area. As for the Winter Tide, I agree that things don't look good for the poor little ship, and the Umiak aren't known f...

Re: Outsider RP

hi hi I guess I'll post this here, even though it looks like other people are already gearing up themselves. Shortly after the worlds of Humanity joined the Loroi in their war against the Umiak, a plan was formed to send scouts in search of a "backdoor" into Umiak space from which to launch a surpri...

I just saw this cool flyby video of saturn, I wonder if someone is going to make one for mercury.

Re: MESSENGER

hi hi My elementary education was at about the same level as The Magic Schoolbus , as far as in-depth information was concerned. When we came back to the topic in Earth Sciences in high school, we did the entire astronomy section from the perspective of a backyard telescope; recognizing constellatio...

Re: MESSENGER

hi hi Huh, I guess my elementary school education was not entirely accurate. Kind of impressive that I was able to go that long without realizing it. Still, being able to see the topography in relief was a big eye opener. I never really got an impression of the scale of things by those little thumbn...

Re: MESSENGER

hi hi That is very cool, looking at the photos Messenger sent back from its flybys, it got me thinking about the feasibility of building facilities on a close, tide locked planet like Mercury. With all those craters, there are lots of places that are covered in shadow even as you move away from the ...

Re: Planetary Invasion/Defense

hi hi Lay down arms? What I really need to know about this situation is logistics and motivation. First: How serious is this war? Is this invasion a routine sort of border dispute that most people don't get too worked up about, or is it an all or nothing war for survival? Second: what is motivating ...

Re: Awww

hi hi I had an idea for a short-ish game involving a combined Human/Loroi scouting force attempting to map a "backdoor" route into Umiak territory, but I never got the chance to propose it. It would have played the contrast of some of humanity's best and brightest being paired up with a disgraced Lo...

Re: 3d Texture (bump)

hi hi It doesn't have a lot of importer options, but it does handle .3ds, .fbx and .obj Unwrapping works like this: you tag the model's surfaces with different colors and when you are done it can unwrap each color area separately (using one of several different methods), so if you've got a little gr...

Re: Test Forums

hi hi

A long while ago I made this so I went back and cleaned it up for use as an avatar.

I don't know if there's a dress code, other than what is outlined in the terms of service about not posting stuff that is illegal etc etc. (But I would hope that the imagery is at least safe for work.)

Re: 3d Texture (bump)

hi hi

If you need to unwrap a texture, I recommend exporting the file and opening it up in wings 3d. Wings is a free 3d modeling program that unfortunately never caught on, but its UV unwrapping abilities are phenomenal.

Re: Awww

hi hi

The only thing I could see a sub-forum being used for is if we ever had a Role-Playing event successfully take off, such that it was crowding out the other posts. Otherwise, most of the topics seem to be relatively self contained.

Re: Test Forums

hi hi One thing to be careful about when making avatars in photoshop is that photoshop likes to add extra data into the file as part of its own formatting. So, what should be a 4 kb .jpg ends up being much larger. You can either "save for web," or use a different picture program to save it without t...
