I am not aware of that. We'll see.

Re: Page 124 and 125, interesting times afoot (patreon only

We may be witnessing the beginning of the fall of the Loroi Union. The Umiak are assaulting en masse along a wide sector of the front and the Loroi are stretched very thin. The implied failure of their far-sensing net means they can't concentrate forces, which will only increase their losses, perhap...

Re: Miscellaneous Loroi question-and-answer thread

The Loroi-Umiak conflict seems a lot like Fascism vs Collectivism. not really, least of all because nether side really fits the collectivism idea much, at best its a case of light fascism (loroi are fascism towards their own but work well with a group of largely independent allies ) and heavy fasci...

Re: Miscellaneous Loroi question-and-answer thread

(...) As you might expect of a military dictatorship, the Loroi can be harsh in how they deal with criminality. Loroi generally do not use long-term incarceration as a punishment. If an offender does not respond to attempts at correction (fines, counseling, removal of privileges, corporal punishmen...

Re: Miscellaneous Loroi question-and-answer thread

Victor_D, where are you getting "Dissenters opposing this system are clearly treated as criminals"? From how I've read Arioch's statements in this thread, vocal dissent is tolerated, disobedience isn't, especially in the military castes. You can say a policy is dumb or wrong, but if you're assigned...

Re: Miscellaneous Loroi question-and-answer thread

BTW Arioch (sorry if this was discussed before), but do Loroi have the concept of a "dissident"? As in a person who opposes the ruling regime and wishes to change it, for example civilians or even warriors opposing the caste system and the "leading role" of the Torrai caste, these sort of things. H...

Re: Miscellaneous Loroi question-and-answer thread

Dude, speculation is what we do here in between updates. As you can imagine, we do quite a bit of it :P ..... I meant "in-universe speculation" ;) Yes, I tend to think the conflict was orchestrated by the Historians. I think they helped the Umiak arm and then launch a war. Only I think the Umiak re...

Re: Miscellaneous Loroi question-and-answer thread

To quote the insider: "Further, it is speculated that the Historians never lost much of their Soia-era technology or history." "Speculated" being the operative word. They may as well be some newly emergent race which just stumbled on more preserved Soia-era artefacts or ruins. This would give them ...

Re: Miscellaneous Loroi question-and-answer thread

If the Historians were around, physically, at the time of the Soia collapse, that would make them what, 275,000 years old spacefaring civilization? I'd think they'd be far, far, faaaaar ahead of the other races technologically if that were the case. Unless they've been in some sort of a cultural and...

Re: Page 123: not much to see

I'm sorry, but I don't see any protective and understanding towards Alex, towards the safety of the ship and the Captain - of course, they are officers on a warship during a battle. I'm thinking you like to look for the worst in expressions drawn in the comic. What's the saying? "What you understan...

Re: Miscellaneous Loroi question-and-answer thread

Loroi and human skeletons are very similar, but I think a anthropological expert could tell the difference even without a chemical or DNA test. Wouldn't they dismiss slight differences as being withing the boundaries of normal human variation? Let's not forget that equatorial African Pygmies and Sw...

Re: Miscellaneous Loroi question-and-answer thread

It's easy enough to reconcile by saying that the Soian empire originated outside of the scope of modern civilization, and the ancestral homeworld is yet to be rediscovered. I have a slightly heretical question that occurred to me after reading the above and knowing that the Loroi are most likely a ...

Re: WIP Discussion (Part 1!)

The ring structure is the Barsam version of the control vanes that stick out the rear of the Loroi engines. This is the "floater drive" that uses an inertial amplifier to increase the effective reaction mass of the exhaust (as well as accelerating and/or vectoring it). So this is how they achieve t...

Re: Page 123: not much to see

Imagine you got someone from the 1830's and introduced them to a laptop PC, and they got the hang of it fast. I think that's how she's feeling about Alex at this moment. It's probably not that bad. I'd say it's more similar to a Windows guy being sat in front of a Mac and asked to use it. At first,...

Have it occurred to you that the comment may not be related to him being male at all? ;) We have an alien on board. He said just moments ago that he, surprisingly, did not read Loroi script. Loroi script was explained to him and lo and behold, he seems to be orienting himself not just in Loroi writi...

Yes, and your solution is very nice. But I also like the little shuttles, they vaguely remind me of the Valkyrie from Avatar (in the sense that the hull "hangs" under the delta wing).

Re: A bit of fan art

Very nice. AFAIK, the silhouette of the freighter is very similar to freighter ships in Master of Orion 2. Somehow, I always thought the cargo went into the central part of the ships and the arms were engines for landing/taking off planets

Re: Miscellaneous Loroi question-and-answer thread

In this case, I'd prefer an Alex who was a sexually conservative hopeless romantic, desperately trying to woo Loroi women with dinners, flowers, ballads, and a kiss on the hand. Maybe even sort of Casanunda like in his wooing. ( https://wiki.lspace.org/mediawiki/Giamo_Casanunda ) I think nothing ro...
