Re: The Loroi are Evil!
It's a tough situation though, so I can see why they'd just declare war anyway. But genocide? There are definitely alternatives to that. There are precisely two alternatives to that. Ceding the territory and in so doing lose the war, or turning the sortie into an all out invasion and occupation of ...

Re: Is Outsider still an active project, or is it over?
That the Loroi have been so far, unable or unwilling to walk down the hall, have a nice little chat with Alex, and determine this basic. Obvious. Fact. Makes their incompetence incredibly plain to me. The very act of talking is the embodiment of deception, from the Loroi point of view. Its what you...

Makes sense. As they said, stormies totally run over the rebels in the Tantive IV and put them on the defensive for years following Yavin IV. And kick ass in the invasion of Hoth. This is a supportable theory. And then: Ewoks. Seriously, at the end of the day its not the Rebels or even the Jedi that...

Good news!!! Master Lucas felt the distrubance in the Force, as millions of fans cried out in terror, and has set about to remake the Awakening with a new special edition.

Re: I sense something. Something I've not felt since...
I'm Protestant, that is, a believer in the individual priesthood. Cannon is whatever I say it is, and Disney and Lucas can go get Force Choked. :P I'll be the first to point out there was some garbage in the EU, and that I stopped caring altogether during the Vong series, but if its a choice between...

Re: The Astronomy Thread
The only thruster I am aware of that on the descent vehicle was actually a thruster designed to drive it into the comet to help negate bounce. That thruster and the harpoon both failed, is what I've seen.

Re: The Astronomy Thread
Apparently, no. Last I read the probe had bounced a few times on landing and wound up more than a kilometer out of position and possibly on its side in a crater. Its not getting enough sunlight to sustain operations where it is at, so its on borrowed time. In the position its in, they can't use the ...

Re: The "Real Aerospace" Thread
Hard to keep secret, like the N1 program. Which didn't even exist until 1989. No, before that it was just a fake out to the US to make them THINK there was a space race going on. Hardy har, foolish Yankees. Granted, the Soyuz has a long and fairly reliable history. The US ultimately opted for the te...

Re: The "Real Aerospace" Thread
We may already have a determination on how it broke up, even if we don't know which part failed. The twin tail booms swing up into a high drag position for aerobraking on descent. There is a two step control process to enable that; a lock/unlock lever and an engage/disengage lever. Protocol is to on...

Re: Outsider opening
References to WW2, atomic weaponry, the Cold War etc abound. At least in the original. My interest has been piked, I'll have to watch the new one. Not soon but eventually. ((Also, Fascists hated Marxism.)) If we are going to have that conversation, and we probably ought not to since politics gets so...

Re: Outsider opening
See, I take issue with that. The Nazi's we all have come to know and revile in media are most assuredly not the Nazis that ruled Germany in the 30's and 40's. They have become a caricature of evil, but in so doing people miss what is important. Everything they did was rational and well reasoned, fro...

Re: Outsider opening
I haven't seen it yet, but this doesn't seem like a good idea... such obviously out-of-story changes are usually much better ignored, especially when you're redoing the whole series and a retcon isn't even necessary. Its to make certain you know they're the bad guys, dontcha know. The trifecta of e...

Re: Gyrojet Pistol
To be truly fair, the holes they were in were different. The M1 wound up in a rut that beached it. You can see when it went forward it picked itself up off its tracks and was sitting on its belly. A function of that damnable red clay we have all over the south east US. The T-90 on the other hand cou...

6. so, there is an advantage while using turbines for an armed force that regularly go around and visit other nations on live fire drills , check. Sorry, that one begged for a small edit  4. well, given all that data, the abrams actually out powers the leopard 2 slightly, weighs in at about t...

Re: Gyrojet Pistol
6. Cold starting. Much like a gas engine, if you get a diesel cold enough, it will not start. Or, at best, will grudgingly do so and need a long warm up period. Turbines, unless literally frozen in a block of ice, will start every time in temperature ranges from cold to subzero, and have a shorter ...

Re: Gyrojet Pistol
fact: in just about every country in the world doctrine dictates that infantry advances using MBTs as mobile cover. fact: US infantry can't do that due to stupid design. And in your eagerness to bash you missed it again. That tasking is offloaded to other, better suited platforms. The British and F...

Re: Gyrojet Pistol
Hold up. The US military is combined arms, don't bash just because its vogue. Trolling will only get you so far. The role of infantry support gets assigned to platforms better suited to actually working with infantry. Whether the platform in question is good at its job is a separate question, and I'...
