I don't agree, I think you have "good guys", meaning they are less bad than the alternative. But we have games within games within games being played in 4D chess.

Some of the tech and background are somewhat familiar from the SPACE OPERA game system from FGU, back in the early 1980's. More Traveller like in some ways as well. Interesting forum.
