Re: Page 142-143: Tsk, here's mommy

Hmmm....I thought mothers had little input in the raising of children (which was mostly communal from a certain point). So would the word "mother" truly denote authority? Or a slang to the ranking officer. Kinda like how in some parts of the US military (Army and Marines), mom is the slang referenc...

Re: Page 141 Discussion - "I think that was MY head"

Yeah... the door even if electrically powered is moved on a mechanical geared track to hold it closed in loss of pressure. Yes, likely its possible Tiedar Fireblade could rip it off its track and part of the wall with it as she can juggle MBT's when she is in a 'righteous fury'... but she may.. jus...

Or more likely that the rest of the shuttle (including it's power source(s)) took the brunt of the EMP shockwave, shielding the forward section.

Or they got hit with actual debris, which knocked out stuff at the rear, including either the power sources, or the distribution .

Re: Miscellaneous Loroi question-and-answer thread

The names of the pawns being abstract makes sense, on chess the names are also abstract when one thinks about it. For example the Rook is meant to represent the raw straightforward hard power of the state, all reaching but always confined into a straight line. The bishop represents diplomacy and tr...

Re: Miscellaneous Loroi question-and-answer thread

I was still wondering why the heck system based on 3x7? Our measure of time and angles is based to 6 as 4x6 and 10x6, which can be divided many ways into practical numbers. Then I though it does become 3x8 system by having douple crews with each first and finishing digel and 13-digel off-watch peri...

Re: Miscellaneous Terran question-and-answer thread

Another question: why does the Colonial fleet operate both the Hayes and the Yorktown class of frigates? Seems like the Hayes is more heavily armed. The York seems strange, an upgunned scout frigate, which means it neither has the firepower of a police frigate (the Hayes), nor does it have the rang...

Re: Page 136: When the douchebags crash the party

With tankers, I can understand as ships are bound to run out of fuel sooner or later (and I am guessing with the Umiak likeing sending out older models until they go boom they probably don't have great gas mileage). The transport ships leave me wondering if there is going to be any land force invas...

Re: WIP Discussion (Part 1!)

But... The Umiak definitely do themselves a disservice to have their missiles home in on their target in straight, ruler-precision lines. Makes it easier for point defense systems to target and destroy them. But, yes. I think the Rule Of Cool trumps practical considerations for sake of display :) E...

Re: New Page 135 - Barsam Ex Machina

I'm trying to square Mozin's arrival with the timing of everything. Haven't the couriers (having been completely surprised) just jumped out a matter of minutes prior? How did Mozin hear of the incursion and get to the system so quickly? Did I misunderstand the use and timing constraints in-universe...

Re: WIP Discussion (Part 1!)

I thought pretty much every Umiak ship was unique, with a few commonly used templates? That doesn't mean that there wouldn't be recognizable patterns. For a less extreme example, my understanding is that every Nimitz-class carrier is different, there was several years between each one getting launc...

Re: Character Discussion - Tempo

By the way, the Barsam courier is also not present in Leido (he went straight for Azimol while we are going to Seren) so the recipient must in both cases be in system and nearby if she's not using encrypted special Mizol frequencies and the ship's comm system through a back door. Unless Tempo's mes...

Re: Character Discussion - Tempo

Besides that, to whom does she send something at Naam? The only ones present were the Barsam courier, and Umiak. Talking to the latest is a no go, and she made clear that the Loroi trust in the Barsam have limits. If we continue this train of thought, even if it may be BS (I feel it is, but still) ...

Re: Character Discussion - Tempo

How do you guys see Tempo ending up on the shuttle? The way I see it there are two big options. Either Stillstorm "politely" told her designated Gestapo minder to leave her ship or Tempo told Stillstorm to be nice while her designated NKVD officer is away. Probably a combination of being on Stillst...

Re: Character Discussion - Tempo

As far as I know, intel officers are or should be taught to be inconspicuous, to not stand out, be indistinguishable from one another and thus should not have behavioral ticks. But that would more apply to field agents of lower rank. In fiction we often see intel officers having such ticks, like fi...

Re: Character Discussion - Tempo

I find Tempo interesting too, but something about her really rubs me the wrong way. People in the intelligence field are often incredibly skilled at deception. Maybe that's what bothers me. I'm terrible at lies, so people who are capable liars give me goosebumps. She's got that "I'm actually a ridi...

Re: Page 133: "Will you permit it?"

She seems a bit thrilled is the fact she can touch him with his permission mean something to her, since they are in such danger? Touch allows a quite deep and intimate sanzai between Loroi from which very few thoughts remain hidden, so it's only reserved to very close friends. Or forced interrogati...

Re: Page 133: "Will you permit it?"

I wonder if all Loroi have identical heartbeat speeds? It seems to be consistent enough to be used as a standard measurement of time. Probably they followed the same route as human measuring units like foot, inch and co. Every city state/valley/tribe had their own standard, until later some empire ...

Re: WIP Discussion (Part 1!)

I don't want to spoil the patreon page, but a throwaway comment by Beryl makes me wonder, was the decision to move alex away from the front in this manner actually taken by Beryl rather than the military high command (stillstorm etc)? I think arioch knows what comment I'm referring to I highly doub...

Re: Miscellaneous Loroi question-and-answer thread

So it's like a prom night were everyone gets lucky. They are locked in a total war against another civilization. It's less of prom night and more of "Congratulations on becoming a warrior/legal adult. Now pop one for the empire while you are still in training, before we ship you off into the meat g...
