Re: Page 213: The Bug Hunt is on!

At the tech level the TCA is at, those are almost certainly the baseline reservist/training weaponry with their main frontline weaponry being made up by a mix of lasers and high powered projectiles (my guess for the later would be somesort of a railgun for the heavy punch and high precision gyrojets...

Re: Page 212: Pucker factor nine point five

In real life, some people claim to hear voices just before falling asleep -- e.g., "Hypnagogic Hallucinations".  There may be many causes for this, but the most probable ones seem to be: (1) A person's brain is in a partial dream state; (2) The person lacks sufficient sleep; (3) The person is hungr...

Re: Page 211: Grand Theft Umiak Cruiser

I think that it would depend on how it is done and what the Lotai's 'conditions' are.

If the Lotai works like a water dam then overwhelming it with brute force would certainly destroy Alex's psyche. If however someone pipes around the dam and they are careful with the pressure then it should be okay.

Re: How the Historians did it

Being able to send particles in a pattern is one (very hard) thing--being able to meaningfully recode something as complex as human DNA is something else entirely. Would require an in-depth genome mapping with comprehensive understanding of the purpose that each gene serves at the very least; that ...

Re: How the Historians did it

Granted, your method is more covert, but I do wonder about whether the radiation involved would be hazardous or not... The 'particle' intrusion would have to be precisely directed and managed in which case any radiation would be confined within the small area that the particle beam passed through. ...

Re: How the Historians did it

If it's a SEU style intrusion a modern computer wouldn't even know the difference even if it was powered up, provided that the intrusion was precise. If it wasn't precise then it would probably crash with a blue screen of death.

How the Historians did it

In page 155 the pocket historian comments that humanity 'still have a few things to learn about power off intrusion prevention'. In layman terms the pocket historian admitted that everything that happened did so when all of the human devices were cut off from power, something that (as far as I know)...

Re: Page 211: Grand Theft Umiak Cruiser

Generally speaking it is not advisable to have someone who is untrained in your operational procedures be part of a combat team. It's a recipe for disaster and there are plenty of examples of combat teams from different branches of the same nation failing to cooperate with one an other. In this situ...

Re: 210 Far-sensing?

I am pretty sure that Alex is somehow sensing everything that Fireblade is broadcasting and is even picking up the mental connections and deductions made up in her mind/the mental network. I am certain that Fireblade is broadcasting the situation to the others in order for them to be ready to act im...

Re: [Fan Fiction] Reforged (Updated 07/26/2021)

Besides Loroi civilians, (and the Orgus refugees) are there any other alien species that are successfully integrating into the confederacy? The Orgus refugees elected to return home when their homeworld was liberated by the Loroi, as a political entity the Orgus are a fully fledged Union member as ...

Re: [Fan Fiction] Reforged (Updated 07/26/2021)

Is just the fear of the Union eventually becoming a superpower capable of rivaling the Confederation, or the fact many Loroi seem to consider humanity offensive simply by existing and wish to "correct" that? It's the Union which is wary of the Confederation becoming a power strong enough to rival i...

Re: [Fan Fiction] Reforged (Updated 07/26/2021)

Really, didn't the Loroi engage in wars and genocides among themselves before they got into space? Word of god is that their past internal wars were 'civilized' in the sense that only warriors were the ones to be culled by the victor. Civilians and males were absorbed by the victor and rarely were ...

Re: [Fan Fiction] Reforged (Updated 07/26/2021)

Chapter 6, Part 3 Like many others things human, coffee was an acquired taste for Alexandra; it didn’t quite have the same stimulating effect to Loroi as it did with humans but it was quickly picked up by many Loroi that caffeine brought forth a heightened state of focus to them, one would think th...

I don't think Precognition is possible in the Outsider universe (I mean, there's breaking the laws of physics, and then there's really breaking the laws of physics :D ). There are two kinds of 'psionic' precognition that I have run into various works. One is the cheat ability to peak into the futur...

Farseers are passive receptors. They're not FTL radios. Strange, I must've confused it with some fanfic then. Darn. Oh, well, I'll re-write that part of my fanfic a little. But you'll give me some creative freedom with that bit, okay? :P Probably Mea Culpa on that front, although technically it ain...
