Re: Loroi abilities, and Loroi Judo
Horses had their advantages, and disadvantages. You had to train them to fight certain things, and well war is more scary for them then us humans. So it takes a long time. Also, they can't be cheap. A horse alone in today's money is a pricey pet, and it must not have been much different back then. T...

Re: Loroi abilities, and Loroi Judo
None of the Loroi sister worlds had a horse equivalent. Deinar's land animals were almost all descended from Soia-Liron livestock, so there are few large land predators (other than the Loroi themselves). There is an elephant-sized herd animal that was sometimes used as a beast of burden, but its te...

Re: Loroi abilities, and Loroi Judo
Arguably, cavalry was already doomed to oblivion before World War I. Even ignoring the reality of trench warfare, cavalry charges were decreasing in efficiency with the invention of more accurate firearms. Guns, guns that can fire more then one round, machine guns, cannons, tanks, land mines, and o...

Re: Loroi abilities, and Loroi Judo
There really is something like this in the US? Very interesting, but please tell me that they are a little bit more historically accurate than, for example, the history channel. I believe the Military Channel is created by the same people who did the History Channel. Indeed. :ugeek: Yeah, it's not ...

Re: Loroi abilities, and Loroi Judo
Pikemen have never really been replaced (I know the only army in the world still armed with them is the 200 strong Swis guard, but my point still stands). The military chanel did a list on some of the greatest weapons ever made, and the Pike was in the top ten for a number of reasons. ' One in a sho...

Re: Loroi abilities, and Loroi Judo
@Mr Bojangles That's the case with most armaments. Up until riffling became commonplace, past 75 yards (a little over 64 meters, not an exact measurement, I suck at converting English to metric) and you're lucky to hit the broad side of a barn with your long gun (which is why they had gun lines back...

Re: Loroi abilities, and Loroi Judo
i have always said, 'real martial arts begin where fighting sports stop', and so far nothing i have seen or heard..or for that matter someone tried to convince me has managed to change that view. Truth. Most martial arts are combat systems. You can make a sport out of them (what can't be a sport, h...

Yeah this was a funny page.
I have to agree Beryle is somewhere between a a teenage girl getting the attention form the captain of the football team's attention and a new dalmatian puppy (they are full of energy until they're like 8 or 9).

No, but they can probably figure sertain things out. [While watching the first film she has decoded] Still Storm: What are you...watching? Tempo:If I had to guess, a vid on mating, although I am mearly going on what the Neridi and the Delridis females watch as entertainment. Still storm: Boring, not...

is it me or the ship seem like he wont fit through the door? Also Space: above and beyond... what happened to that show? I think it would have too, the image is just for size comparison. The Highlander was originally 60 m in length (IIRC) now its 50m's and now fits inside the shuttle. as for Space:...

Also, there were different types of arrows. Some were barbed and good for hunting, others designed for piercing armor. But English longbowmen were better off then the general range standby, the crossbow, as it took forever to load (other then that, it it had a lot of kick and an idiot could wield it...

Re: Sustainable Systems and Nuclear Energy
I remember watching something on the history channel once where they were talking about green tech, and one power company (I think its in the Arizona desert or something) came up with a brilliant idea. When using natural gas as a power fuel, they wood feed the carbon gases through a series of tubes ...

I stand corected on the side arms.
As for the Beowolf, it was designed as a close quarters weapon, especially for guards at checkpoints so they can kill a charging car's engine, among other things.

Re: Sustainable Systems and Nuclear Energy
I can see nuclear standards going up, or a replacement found. If they with a more "green" aproch to power, I wonder how they would get past those limitations? Windmill power requires areas that get lots of wind, and to have these things dot the landscape. Solar panels work best in sunny areas, such ...

@ Junk: Pretty much, which is why knives should be last resort or for stealthier kills. @daelyte: whaat I meant by grappling is getting the opponent on the ground and keeping them there or raining blows upon them. Most mainstream martial arts like to be in a more standing position or prefer to have ...

Yeah, her features seem softer in that one. As if she has a bit more understanding of Alexander. Even if he isn't up to snuff for a warrior on looks alone, she can definitively relate to his defiance after an attack from an overpowering force. She's probably seen almost all of her friends killed, so...

Re: Loroi abilities, and Loroi Judo
Been a while, but this caught my attention. From what I understand on a few things on what I've read, or seen in film commentaries and documentaries, here are my 2 cents. 1. Knives. In a combat situation you want a stabbing weapon more then you do a slicing weapon as both parties might be hyped up o...
