Re: Page 190: K-CHUNK
The Umiak infantry is - oof. I did think of BLAA but just, like, that's horrifying to see in person.

Re: Miscellaneous Loroi question-and-answer thread
Hello, I maybe a little late on this but regarding weapons in sci-fi both ship mounted, and handheld. Why are energy weapons always seen as better than slug throwers? Remember that slugs are slow . A light second is ~299,999km or so with change. How fast are the slugs going? Missiles? Compare that ...

Re: Miscellaneous Loroi question-and-answer thread

Re: Page 189: GO AWAY!
What does 'altering and booby trapping' entail? Something like the "Homo Jihadi" [sic] of Orion's Arm? Or walking virus bags something akin out of Nurgle subterfuge? Basically, imagine the worst body horror movie you've ever seen. Umiak agents (badly) disguised as Loroi, Loroi captives implanted wi...

Yes. Oh, thank God it's "someone's pissed they are not making as much money as they could by exploiting a natural resource" and not "natural resource is approaching exhaustion". We're almost out of it. We're almost out of a LOT of metals, n We are? I refer not to just sand, nor just general profite...

Re: The Astronomy Thread
There's some Phosphate on Mars, according to Zubrin, and if we never terraform the thing, why not use it here.... We're almost out of it. We're almost out of a LOT of metals, not just Rare Earth Stuff, in the decades range. That is far, far too low to be comfortable. This will only decrease as the p...

Re: Miscellaneous Loroi question-and-answer thread
In regards to Planet-bound combat, are Submarines still in any use? Putting the 'Navy' back into 'Space Navy', I guess. In any of the three powers, though as the Loroi worlds are the one feeling the brunt of the war, did they ever just say 'get in the Sub, we're going to take pop shots from the dept...

I'm guessing 'Low Tide' is their shock term for 'he's a dirtsider/comes from a dirt-bound planet'?

Re: How can the Loroi win?
The Loroi halt this offensive, hold the line, then follow Alex back to Humanti space, strip-mine and churn out whatever they can, and then attack the Umiak from the flank or even rear by following the Orgus. Human forces are sent to bolster home-sector defense. A two-pronged attack catches the Umiak...

Now the glomping and poomfing begins. I'm imaging a den of hyenas all sleeping together in a pile. But - less murderous and more welcoming. At least save Fireblade*.

I have KSP but not a computer to run it well. When I do, I want to bash together RSS and Interstellar and maybe a space-dock mod and just churn out a lot of my made-up interplanetary designs, hah.

Re: Terran Nuclear Tech (split from Terran Q&A)
Computers can't turn a wrench. Robots can, but unless your tech level is very high, robots are more expensive than humans and less capable. If we're talking prediction of the future, I think humanity will most likely achieve absurdly high levels of technology before we ever (if ever) find a way to ...

Re: Page 159: Bedroom Eyes
I'm hoping for a cultural-exchange pow-wow. The Loroi and Humanti can talk a bit; reveal a bit about the 'verse. Especially since Mickey Mouse of all things is an apparent taboo! We shouldn't get ahead of ourselves yet. The page isn't done yet and will look different with shading applied. Or we shou...

Re: Terran Nuclear Tech (split from Terran Q&A)
All of the above is true, but it's not just a question of control and decision making. Starships are extremely complex collections of systems that need monitoring, calibrating, maintenance and repair. Automation can take care of some of this, but there are times (especially in combat) when things g...

SSTO's a grand step in the right direction, but IMO, SpaceX is going to shoot themselves in the foot with their Spaceship design. It's one of my main gripes with SpaceX now, along with cancelling stuff like Red Dragon. SSTOs, in the niche of repetitively getting people from the ground to sub-orbit o...

Re: Miscellaneous Umiak/misc. races question-and-answer thre
What convinced the Orgus to go the way they did? They seemed to have gone way into the empty region; straight to the center. Was this part of a general plan to make the Umiak loose their scent and the Orgus would double back up-arm, or even onto Loroi space from the side? Or just a huge hope someone...

Not a fan of the whole of New Space, either, but if they can whip up Lunar and Martian rockets, superheavies etal, then it's a welcome addition. Governments will snap back in time anyway.
