Re: The "Real Spacecraft" Thread
Trantor - Did you even read the linked articles? Sure, or where do you think the quote comes from? They're not looking at it because it's the most efficient, most advanced, most powerful rocket engine. Nothing of that except the power. It´s an inefficient dinosaur. A breaktrough then, yes. But hist...

Re: The "Real Spacecraft" Thread
That was a great article. There's a follow-up to it: The F-1B Not only did NASA reverse-engineer the engine, one of the companies in the Advanced Booster Competition is using that data to create the F-1's successor, the F-1B. Same beast, modern tech. Fun times. Honestly? That´s a dead end...

Re: The "Real Spacecraft" Thread
Essentially, they had to disassemble and reverse-engineer a 40-year-old F-1 to figure out how it works. Not sure what that says about the current state of our aerospace industry. Nothing, because that´s only relevant for historians/museums. Today we must make engines with todays standard of tech (l...

Re: WIP Discussion (Part 1!)
So what would happen? Well all the air currently in your lungs would be pulled out really fast by the vacuum, no matter how hard you tried to hold your breath. Also your intestines get the same treatment, so it's going to get messy. You will probably black out 15 seconds later as you start to run o...

Re: MESSENGER
Possibly good news for our robotic friend in mercurys orbit: According to information from the 44th Lunar and Planetary Science Conference (2013) there´s an additional budget of $200mio for FY 2013 (due to be signed by the Prez), and there is already a roadmap for a so-called "Second Extended Missio...

Re: MESSENGER
Necroposting, YAY!
So, last time i checked MESSENGERs mission will be terminated tomorrow.
There is still enough propellant for two more years, and scientists have petitioned on an extension for that time. I hope they will continue as there´s still a LOT to find on that oddball planet out there.

Re: Hyperspace
Necroposting FTW! Given that the frequency of stars seems to go up as the size comes down, it's logical to expect that there are a significant number of brown dwarfs. Unfortunately I haven't seen much current evidence (or even much theory) that soldily predicts how many there are. Me neither, but re...

I saw the word "page" in orange and got all excited for a second. Sorry for that one. Anyway, looks to me like Fireblade's just receiving sanzai . Yes, that´s what i think, too. But what? It might even be particularly surprising for her to make such a blatant facial expression. Exactly. SO WHAT IS ...
