Re: Stars in Shadow
One thing I'm wondering about: Is the AI opportunistically comparing their fleet strength to yours when deciding when to go to war? They should also compare industrial base, economic and metal base, too. When the fuzzies decided to claw my bollocks off and I said "naw," I was able to basically conju...

Re: Stars in Shadow
The Yorgal declared war on me for $REASONS. They didn't come at me in like, ten turns. Eventually, I said "this is stupid, let's end this war." I paid 100 Influence to end the war, 80 to establish embassies again, 80 to establish trade again... And the very next turn, they declared war again. THIS ...

Re: Stars in Shadow
The diplomacy system is brand new, and there's a lot that still needs to be added to it, not least of which is AI handling. Fair 'nuff, I'm just saying, it was quite a rude surprise to basically influence-bribe them with an asston of influence, basically saying "Look, you guys, some things were sai...

Re: Stars in Shadow
To invade a planet you need to build ground forces and load them onto transports (or build the "troop transport" option, which includes both). Thanks. Found another problem, though. The Yorgal declared war on me for $REASONS. They didn't come at me in like, ten turns. Eventually, I said "this is st...

Re: Stars in Shadow
Also, the game stopped responding to me when I bombarded a planet, I was obliged to blindly kill it with the task manager. I think there may be a new bug where the game hangs if you kill all population with bombardment. Ah, that would constitute a problem in the situation I'm in. Some alien arsehol...

Re: Stars in Shadow
A few more early thoughts: It might be nice to draw the player's attention if they colonize a world where their people are going to be starving and they need to buy a farm right away to stop that. (It might be nicer to have the colony set-up include a pity farm capable of feeding the starting coloni...

Re: Stars in Shadow
Just started things up. First impressions: The font and icons used for the title screen and informing the player that their maps are being generated may be offputtingly cartoony to some players. It bears an unfortunate resemblance to Comic Sans, and years and years of memeing have left Comic Sans an...

Re: Stars in Shadow
Time for a first impressions review about Stars in Shadow after spending about three hours on it and without reading anything about it previously. Thanks for the feedback. We have a long list of TODO's in terms of improving the UI, but I'm interested to know what bits specifically you found unintui...

Re: Updates? 113+?
How are things going, Arioch and are you still open for (simple) commissions? We've been in crunch mode for Stars in Shadow which goes into Early Release on Steam on September 15. After that I want at least a couple of pages done. So I'll be available for new commissions starting in October. Arioch...

Re: Miscellaneous Loroi question-and-answer thread
hi hi Given that the Loroi are already an engineered race, and they see themselves as the rightful heirs of the Soia empire, I get the feeling that they already have a general cultural sense of superiority. Plus Telepathy and Telekinesis. In the minds of their most chauvinist members they are as cl...

Re: Miscellaneous Loroi question-and-answer thread
Implanting a foreign object in your arm wouldn't interfere with telepathic touch contact, but I don't see a compelling reason why anyone would want to do something like that. Because transhumanism . Or transoriginism, if you're referring to members of non-human races. What's noillir? It's a mushroo...

Re: Miscellaneous Loroi question-and-answer thread
A regrown or regenerated limb isn't really a "prosthetic", since it's your own tissue and is as "real" as your original limb was, as far as your body is concerned. Attaching someone else's limb is potentially problematic, since other people's flesh does not conduct telepathic contact (touching pers...

Alright. What about a biological prosthetic, like a cloned limb, or a donor limb?Arioch wrote:No.ShadowDragon8685 wrote:Arioch, would a cybernetic prosthetic; such as a cyberarm, allow full-bandwidth skin-contact sanzai?

Re: Miscellaneous Loroi question-and-answer thread
I have a question. With up to 50% of Loroi society (in peacetime) being Warriors, does that mean that the Warrior castes wind up doing civil-service jobs that we'd assign to civilians? Things like civil policing, emergency medtechs, hospital staff/doctors, firefighters, emergency rescue services, etc?

Re: I get to download No Man's Sky tonight!
Apparently, from what I've seen, it's one of those games that has just enough content and charm to get a player past the two hour steam refund window, then the repetitive samyness grind sets in.Arioch wrote:Ouch!

Re: Miscellaneous Loroi question-and-answer thread
In theory, but there is not much need. Inertial dampers can handle pretty much any acceleration that a ship large enough to mount them can generate. Huh. So is there essentially a lower volume limit on the size of dampeners? Maybe the total dry mass of the craft is important? 44m - the size of a La...

Re: Miscellaneous Loroi question-and-answer thread
A more basic question : Are grav compensators subtractive, or do they compensate up to their rating, then collapse? Subtractive : You have a 35G compensator. You accelerate at 40G, you feel (40G-35G) 5Gs. Collapsing : You have a 35G compensator. You accelerate at 40G, your compensation field collap...
