I've been recently enjoying Cosmoteer: Starship Architect & Commander, it needs polish but what is there has been fairly decent. Starts off fairly easy if you use the ship with lasers and shields, but you have to diversify your defenses before taking on level 5+ enemies or it'll take your lunch money.

And yes, at some point far enough into future, there will probably be AI's that will be much better than humans at everything.
