Re: Miscellaneous Loroi question-and-answer thread

Addendum, its only irrelevant until 1 of the 10 types of people in the world have to do some programming.

Re: War Thunder

I played it for a while, went up the US line. I'll grant the team the benefit of the doubt and say things arent finished. I hope not at least. In the early war the USN/MC pilots were outmatched in Buffalos and Wildcats. But those planes had advantages at higher speeds in dives that the Zekes couldnt...

Re: Master of Orion 2 (and Space Strategy Games Discussion)

I was poking around in ye olde mods bin and figured it wasnt ioncross, it was ampyear with ion RCS. Further poking yielded that the fcs contained within Ampyear was actually a derived from remote tech, which wont be updated till .24. Ah well.

Re: Master of Orion 2 (and Space Strategy Games Discussion)

I think the improved joints rate highly too. Default science progression is... well it just seems off. You get atmospheric pressure meters and thermometers and such well after you should/could be leaving Kerbin behind, but to make the most of the science available you have to keep poping into differ...

Re: The Astronomy Thread

I have to question the value of a Chariklo mission when it would be easier and I'd argue more productive to go after Saturn or Jupiter. Sure there is some novelty to it, but the mission would be better served elsewhere. Especially given the constraints on RTG fuel.

Re: Master of Orion 2 (and Space Strategy Games Discussion)

If its a game with a vertical component I would hope it supports TrackIR. Not that I have the money to spare for one, but playing DCS sims I've recognized just how limited the view space on a monitor really is. Made me start looking at other games going, "oh hey ya it'd be nice to look around right ...

Re: Master of Orion 2 (and Space Strategy Games Discussion)

The X series' flight system has always felt... off. Wonky. Wasn't really looking forward to the new one since it seemed they were intent on "fixing" a lot of what set them apart instead of what held them back. I'd like to be a fly on the wall at corporate as they handle the fallout from this one. Ed...

Re: HOMEWORLD REMASTERED

Ill grant you the HW1 salvage issue, but it could have been remedied by the module/location damage introduced in 2. Take out engines and fire control, send out salvage corvette/frigate. By that I mean, you can take the gameplay in 1 and add to it rather than building something different. Speaking of...

Re: HOMEWORLD REMASTERED

If not older franchises then older styles of gameplay. I may be turning into a cantankerous old man, but I don't think they make'm like they used to. It feels like more 80's .50 cent arcade games with modern graphics every where I turn. Which were fine... in the 80's. But the depth of gameplay I wan...

Re: Miscellaneous Terran question-and-answer thread

Define a lot? As I recall its about 150 nanograms of AM. E=mc^2 makes that roughly 4 kilowatt hours of energy.

I mean, its more than we can make dirtside, but not enough to be useful in this context.

I would have figured the Loroi to be the type to be willing to engage in selective breeding to enhance those odds. At least in peace time, or whatever passes for such.

This you can thank our Judeo/Christian heritage in the west were evil is evil simply because That... has nothing to do with a Judeo/Christrian background. Its not a unique feature, or defining characteristic of such a society. If it were Star Wars would never have seen the world wide appeal it did....

Re: Lightsabers!

Meh. I was a big SW fan as a kid, Lord only knows how much time I actually spent playing X-Wing or TIE Fighter, but you can call me a cynic. I doubt seriously the canon is going to be straightened out so much as the old stories erased to make room for money makers, regardless of quality. Thats just ...

Re: The end of the war Thread

The sole examples of Loroi behavior and morale in comic so far are aboard the 51st Strike Group. She may not have meant to be boastful, but Beryl took pride in their success rate. Other groups with higher attrition rates would necessarily have different outlooks. The reserve and homeguard fleets hav...

Re: WIP Discussion (Part 1!)

I realize some readers might think that those story-lines could go so that you can focus on the main story-line, but I think they are essential in making the story more "real" and the characters more believable. Along that point, one reason the comic has such a following is because of the depth of ...

Re: The "Real Aerospace" Thread

I disagree that the Navy doesn't need the F-35, the Navy needs to be able to do everything the Air Force can do because sometimes they ARE the Air Force for a while before things get mobilized, as a result they have to able to fill any role, even if only poorly. You can fulfill the role, even if on...

Re: The "Real Aerospace" Thread

Its the same story as the F-111, people who dont understand air combat are in charge of procurement. It would be cheaper to buy one thing instead of two, because one is less than two. In this case, they tried doing lets see... four? different things with a single airframe if you count being exportab...

Re: The "Real Aerospace" Thread

To be fair, there are plenty of other 2nd and 3rd gen fighters still in service. A-4s, Mirage IIIs, F-5s, hell the J-7 derivative of the MiG 21 just stopped production. All in active service. You wont hear me singing their praises mind you. Actually, scratch that, the Skyhawk deserves a special nod....
