Pub or bar
A tavern or restaurant is a lozanir. Such places generally do not serve intoxicating substances, as taking drugs in public is not considered socially acceptable. Those places that do provide drugs would be more illicit like opium dens.

Re: Off Topic: Lets Make a Scifi/Fantasy Race, Reptilian

The fully upright, squared shoulder stance of ancient humans is surely an adaptation to the open savanna by an already bipedal creature. If Troodon evolved for a forested environment, then one need only postulate that one branch survived the extinction event and found itself in more open terrain. T...

Re: Off Topic: Lets Make a Scifi/Fantasy Race, Reptilian

Yeah, it wouldn't have been T.Rex, but perhaps one of the smaller theropods. I think that tool-using intelligence is the path of the generalist scrounger, not the apex predator.

Re: Off Topic: Lets Make a Scifi/Fantasy Race, Reptilian

The obvious advantage of bipedalism is that it frees your forelimbs to become dedicated manipulators. But my point is that theropods were already bipedal; their forelimbs were already completely specialized and not used for locomotion. In some cases (T.Rex) they were becoming almost vestigial. So th...

Re: Off Topic: Lets Make a Scifi/Fantasy Race, Reptilian

One of the first rules of (realistic) creature design has to be: long downward-hanging tails and upright bipedal stance don't go together. The whole point of a long tail in a biped is to counterbalance a forward-leaning body. A creature that developed humanlike upright stance would rapidly lose the ...

Re: Miscellaneous Loroi question-and-answer thread

I don't really think of Gal Gadot as being especially muscular. Maybe a better example is Gina Carano, and yes, a Loroi female could get that big. I do wonder whether the ability to "bodybuild" (to use weightlifting to build for mass rather than strength) is a uniquely human quirk, or whether other ...

Forum Issues

I have noticed lately that the forums log me out regularly, and that I get an HTTP 500 error after making a post. Are others having these issues, or is it just me?

Re: Miscellaneous Loroi question-and-answer thread

Is it particularly difficult for Loroi in general to put on noticeable amounts of muscle? Not gigachad swole type, but more Laura Croft or Wonder Woman style of athleticism. They are noticeably stronger, but not to a ridiculous degree like how most comic books portray heroes. Loroi don't bulk up th...

Re: Miscellaneous Loroi question-and-answer thread

Where might some of these enclaves and reserves be on Mestirot? On undesirable land (deserts, swamplands, steep mountainranges,...). Well, that's true, but I think that's inevitable; traditionalist societies, especially nomadic ones, tend to live at the fringes of civilization by their very nature,...

Re: Miscellaneous Loroi question-and-answer thread

Do any of the sister worlds have reserves or for primitive Loroi, like the reserves for nomadic tribes or aboriginals on Earth? There are a variety of such traditionalist societies, and they would have a range of different practices and legal situations (such as the difference between a hunter-gath...

Re: Miscellaneous Loroi question-and-answer thread

what is Loroi television and movies like? do they have romantic movies or something similar? Or is something movies and television something that Loroi have done away with entirely as a more primitive form of entertainment. The Loroi don't have a media culture like we do. For their arts and enterta...

Re: Miscellaneous Loroi question-and-answer thread

I understand that all Loroi males are wards of the state and therefore provided for. And this next question perhaps does not apply to the Nedatan order, but are there any menfolk involved in business? Are there any rich male tycoons or magnates? Male entrepreneurs? As they are technically civilian,...

Re: Miscellaneous Loroi question-and-answer thread

Then maybe the Loroi were giving him bland food on purpose since as an unknown alien they thought to just give him the basics. Still.... you'd think not all of it would be awful unless Stillstorm did it out of spite. The Loroi have no way of knowing what Alex can even digest, much less find tasty. ...

Re: Miscellaneous Loroi question-and-answer thread

Arioch... dd you intend for Loroi to have a sense of taste we as humans do not? I say this because I loomed at the panel where Alex was writing down descriptions of Loroi food It either smelled bad, had no flavor, or made him puke, and the clear packet I can't blame him for avoiding because I proba...

Re: Miscellaneous Loroi question-and-answer thread

I'm not sure that men attracted to muscular women has anything to do with homosexuality... but my point was that different individuals of the same species can be attracted to different things. There are all kinds of sexual peccadillos which have no specific reproductive logic to them and aren't easi...

Re: Miscellaneous Loroi question-and-answer thread

I assume Loroi dont like grenades that much? Loroi like grenades just fine, but I think they have limited use in combat aboard ship. Besides the typical grenades people think of that use meant to kill such as using the shockwave of the explosion or shrapnel, what about other varieties? Flash Grenad...

Re: Teidar/Mizol who fail their Diral Trails

It's been explained that a very large percentage (the majority, IIRC) of loroi civilians are ones who went through warrior training but failed their diral trials. That makes sense for most of the warrior castes, but what happens to prospective Teidar/Mizol who wash out? Are there loroi civilians ou...

How much of the Loroi menfolk populace is enrolled within the Nedatan order?
I'd guess that less than half of the males are in some kind of philosopher order, and as the largest such order, the Nedatan has maybe half of those. So, perhaps 20% of the male population.

Did you know that Tolkien first developed the elvish languages, and only then wrote his books that grew out of them?
Yes. He was an Oxford language professor... messing around with languages was what he did for a living.
