Re: Page 98

I just wanna be myself and I want you to love/ me for who I am/ I just wanna be myself and I want you to know/ I am my hair! Another thing I just realized: "...no visitors except the security officers who were constantly trying to get me to eat." Is it just me, or does that sound like the most ador...

Re: The vessel that destroyed Bellarmine

If machine-hosted intelligences can't be detected by Loroi Farseers, then the Historian emissaries should be un-detectable as well. Not necessarily. Also ... are Historian Emissaries invisible? Do we know? If one could generate an entirely synthetic intelligence, it ought to be invisible. However, ...

Re: The vessel that destroyed Bellarmine

To be honest I wouldn't be surprised if current Umiak farseeing jamming (if any) isn't them just having figured out how to transfer consciousness from flesh to machine. We know they are fairly happy on cybernetics, so one could assume that they would take the next logical step and completely throw ...

What I find more curious is that they're wearing armor that looks like it could function as a space suit, but their hair extends outside of the helmets. It'd take a pretty spiffy seal mechanism to make that even vaguely practical. Looks cool as anything, I'll grant, but seems a tad bizarre. Well, t...

It's probably some sort of materials requirement. Or the fact that if you're in fancy colors, that's just fine ... if you're not going into a combat situation, where, presumably, you don't want to get noticed by the enemy.

Re: Page 98

It's in the Insider, apparently. Alex has been through jumps before ... he should know, more or less, what his reaction to jumping is. That's probably part of how he can tell how many jumps have been made (and, thus, perhaps get an approximation on how far from Naam he is now, based on an "average" ...

Maybe not all the way back (yet), but probably at least partway back. That, or they've gone more or less laterally because the Umiak were between them and the jump zone for the most direct route back to Loroi space. TF 51 has almost certainly left Naam by now - not much of a reason to stick around, ...

Re: Photo-Voltaic cells Silly use.

Better off doing photovoltaic roofing or siding, on appropriately oriented faces. If you keep the photovoltaic siding above ground level, you won't need to worry as much about people causing damage to your photovoltaics. Still not perfect, but more efficient and more effective than photovoltaic floo...

Re: Thou 2012 arrived! And it shall rain spam for 40 days&nig

The only solution I can think of is to code a custom CAPTCHA for the site. Which I thought was a ridiculous idea before I said it out loud... hmmm... "Identify this character" That would work fairly well. I'm probably not the only person who's ever messed up doing a CAPTCHA, and an "identify this c...

Re: WIP Discussion (Part 1!)

Nice to see Ellen again. On a side note I was looking at the Terran Cruiser and noticed it only had 4 point defence turrets. The Tempest fights battles on a whole other scale than Terran ships. But even it only has 6. The Loroi's dedicated point defence ship has 8. Given that the energy use is negl...

oh I remember feeling exactly how alex felt with a superior officer, feeling i'm in trouble, but getting a compliment instead, while in the cadets. I love alexs expression and back story. so I guess for this kinda of mission Capt Hamilton got to hand pick his crew ? Heh. Every reason to give the CO...

It's relatively standard (even today) for people formally seeking refuge/asylum in a major country (at least, ones who are doing so legitimately) to get debriefed by that country's government.

Re: psychological warefare on the Umiak.

As for killing off a planet's population (or even most of it) ... the Umiak would not need to glass the planet, or even enter orbit. All they'd really need to do would be to launch a salvo of missiles on an intersection course with the planet's orbit. The missiles get up to a noticeable velocity bef...

Re: Warhammer 40,000

Also: in WW2 the sherman tank was actually an early war tank, and thus was obsolete before it even hit the battlefields This is false. The Sherman was in fact quite comparable to it's opponents at the start of the war. By the time Normandy rolled around it was woefully inadequate, but in North Afri...

Re: Warhammer 40,000

The reason that there is effectively no technological advancement in 40k is because of the way the Mechanicus works - they have a more or less absolute monopoly on all technology. And they treat it as religion. Everything is ritualized, from pressing the power button on a computer to turning on a li...
