Tough, fast and extremely mean, the Junkyard Dog is a large automated Salvage Corvette that prowls the Karos Graveyard. It can dart in to your formation, grab a frigate and escape through a slipgate before the defenders can put a dent in it.

The Dog is as fast as an attack bomber, and better armored than a cruiser. It can grab any of your ships -- even a cruiser or carrier. It uses the graveyard slipgates to move around, and will usually take its prey to a specific "lair." The dog will only steal a few ships and then will become dormant; you can then re-capture the ships (except for the one the Dog is clamped on to).

If you fire on the Dog while it is clamed onto a ship in its lair, it will eventually release and grab another ship. This is useful only if you hope it will grab a less-expensive ships than the one it currently has.

The only way to defeat the Junkyard Dog (other than destroying all the slipgates and chasing him for hours) is to catch him in a gravity well. Though almost as large as a frigate, the Dog is still technically a corvette, and therefore helpless in a gravwell. Once this is accomplished, he is relatively easy to dispatch.
