"Consequently,
the Vaygr destroyer is one of the most distinctive units,
with its offset hull used for plasma beam generators."
- Dan Irish, Executive Producer
"The
story involves the Hiigarans and details their struggle
against a raging warrior race, the Vaygr. ... Certainly, the
new enemy is completely new, distinctive and menacing."
- Dan Irish, Executive Producer
"The
two sides are different in terms of technology so you won't
even be able to research the other's type of tech. They
share basic stuff like resourcing, but that's it. Hiigarans
are more well rounded with their fleets where the Vaygr are
much more specialized in their uses." - Joshua
Mosquiera, Lead Designer
"From
the Inner Rim, the Hiigarans have to stand up to this bitter
enemy that wields the power of the ancients." - Action
Trip
A
large Vaygr ship seen in the recent IGN shots. It has two large twin-turrets
topside and underside, and four vertical missile (or
torpedo) launchers on the oversized starboard prong.
Several
people have written in to opine that the dark port in the
front of the center hull between the two hull prongs (seen
here) might be a weapon port. This is possible, but a)
it seems to be just a texture, rather than actual geometry,
and b) the combat footage we have of the destroyer thus far
consistently shows that when attacking it turns 90 degrees
and presents its broadside to the enemy, bringing both
turrets and all four torpedo tubes to bear. A forward-firing
weapon port would be unable to fire in such a configuration.
