Ok... my theories...

I say theories cause this is mostly supposition.. I REALLY do not have any wealth of evidence to back it up..mostly because the comic has been running for years but we have so little to go one right now...

When Jardin first encountered the Loroi in the medical lab he awoke with a start from a burning presence he 'sensed'... p.19 panel 3 we see Fireblade.. her expression was not one of disgust or anger but one of shock. Panel 4 her expression one of perhaps expectant curiosity? The next close up on Fireblade is on page 20, panel 3 ~ There is the expression of guarded suspicion. Her next expression is shared with Beryl on the next page 21, panel 4 ~ yes its a 'what the hell is he talking about?'... but what is to note she is not glaring at him in utter disbelief or clear hostility. The next time we close up on Fireblade is on p. 23 when it seems both her and Beryl are in telepathic discussion with Stillstorm... note there is no anger, suspicion or even malice in Fireblade's expression. The next p. 24 Fireblade's expression is serious... but not suspicions.. actually rather neutral it doesn't convey much of her feelings. Pages 25, 26 show Fireblade but again no hints to her feelings in her expression both being neutral. Now page 27... lots going on here ~ Fireblade's expression in panel 1 is one not really of anger but perhaps guarded caution... almost concern.. it looks like she does not want to harm the strange male creature.. but its Jardin's description that more telling ~ 'her touch was almost gentle'. Now her expression in panel 3 is one of either anger or frustration but certainly intense concentration but also to note Jardin is showing us bits of his personality with him joking about in the face of clear hardship. Now p. 32...Fireblade enters his cell alone.. her expression in panel 1 its mixed kind of a curious readiness to see what he new reaction to her now would be.. clearly there is anger in Jardin's expression. In panel 4 lots going on here but its subtle...clearly Fireblade it trying to intimidate with her presence her expression serious and I was say focused... she seems to be meeting Jardin's eyes... but I get the distinct impression she is not use to meeting a males gaze at the same height cause Jardin is only slight shorter than her.. and she seems to not be sure she likes meeting a male who is comparable to her in height! But Jardin's reaction is not to cower but to meet her stance for stance gaze for gaze... something I'm sure that is showing Fireblade... this male may be confined..but his is Certainly NOT Cowed or intimidated...she understands his words 'what do you want'.. and the expression on her face is somewhat of frustration in the context of his words. She may not know what she wants but clear defiance from him is certainly not it!

Now from this point on Fireblade does not give anything away expression-wise her visage is neutral until p. 45 where she shoves Jardin with TK... both panels 4 and 6 she is not angry or offended..6 there is just the slightest hint of a smile in amusement ...clearly Jardin thinks so.

My point. later on when Jardin is escorted to the shuttle he tries to get a reaction out of Fireblade... she is clearly put off by his irreverent, joking, talkative nature so opposite of her serious intense nature...

And THAT is my point.. I think Jardin and Fireblade are opposites personality wise... but often times opposites attract for both see unconsciously the thing in their personality that is missing the thing they refuse to accept... Jardin the serious and Fireblade the jest and settled back way of approaching life. I think the heart knows more of what one needs to feel complete than the head EVER does. I think the reason why Jardin can sense Fireblade is because indeed... his heart recognizes her as something he needs...

I'm the FIRST person to say 'Love at First' sight is just a bunch of bunk... until, damn it, it happened to me. The same thing my father tells me it happened to him with my mother who he married and stay with until her death 2 years ago. 48 good years!

Now Jardin does not realize it yet, in fact neither did I when it happened to me.. I denied it to myself for months.. until I realized everytime I closed my eyes her face was there, but the Loroi are telepathic and Fireblade powerful even among the loroi so I think that specialness that is her that resounds to Jardin's heart bleeds over... they don't like each other righ tnow.. and in fact my mother told my father She WOULD NEVER MARRY him..despite the year in college he pursued her..lol.. but I'm hopeful....

No I think there is more to Jardin's ability to sense Fireblade than just her being a powerful psionic... no I think its deeper than that.

I think you are putting way too much thought into this. And you are way too romantic about it too.

In my opinion, it's clearly the common "Warrior male meets independent woman" trope played out in reverse, and not much more. In her eyes, Alex is a "male" who claims to be a warrior, isn't quickly bullied like those weak breeder males, and seems to have proven himself capable of taking punishment, both from her and the universe at large. She respects that, but she also feels like she has to knock him down a peg to keep her world-view intact, even if she knows he's not a Loroi and the rules dont apply.

Keep in mind that Alex is probably quite unattractive to the sensibilities of the average Loroi, he's neither small, nor fragile, nor does he follow what "Maleness" entails to a Loroi. If anything, he's going to remind her of her female comrades, maybe the ones who died on that ship. I have the suspicion her character development will come from there, not a romantic relationship.

That's really important and a very good point. Just imagine Beryl as super butch.

And yet, there are plenty Human males I know of who prefer muscular, flat-chested, large women over usual Playboy models....
Kinks vary, and I presume the same may be true for Loroi.
On top of that, someone who has been in very dire circumstances learnt first hand how advantageous a self-sufficient partner is, and not having to care for a helpless , dependent second person as well.....

true although I am sure everyone would prefer interdependence in the grand scheme of things unlike Alex who looks like he is about to be given the dead weight treatment

I thought that the cause for Fireblade's animosity towards Alex was simple; before he arrived she had the biggest foot size on Tempest. No. The entire fleet! Now there's this null freak just swaggering all over her turf, seemingly incapable of shutting it's annoying mouth for more than 5 seconds.

The fact that it's a male, an alien AND that it's wearing her only spare pare of shoes is just adding fuel onto the pyre.

It's not even an attractive male at that. It's tall, confident and muscularly lean. Pink with the most dull eye and hair colour, and it's ears are rounded.

Ewwww.

Also he called her dumb. Worse, he insinuated it before muttering a false apology. The nerve!

What a bunch of 'negative-ninnies'... it's simple... if we find Loroi females attractive despite how different they are from our lovely Earth Women, it's reasonable to see how loroi females could find Earth men attractive for simular reasons.

And my comments and observations were more about Alex Jardin's reactions to Fireblade... really she has shown little interest in him other than that glance she showed him when his eyes met hers when they sat on that couch at the back of the 'Tempest' bridge. Arioch has kept her feelings not evident other than some annoyance with how talkative Alex is.

The Sith ideology is a joke as a system, because it actively promotes chaos and disloyalty, which guarantees that the system will fail. Even the most twisted, evil fascist system won't operate without some degree of loyalty.

It should read:

"Through passion I am easily defeated by more disciplined opponents"

"Through strength I gain power, but I can't trust my apprentices so that power will not be passed on, and they will be weak morons"

"We will use only red lightsabers to make sure that everyone knows to kill us on sight"

"We will triumph only when the Jedi devolve to a point where they're even dumber than we are, but then we will only have 2 people in our order so it can be undone by a bad cold"

(transmission ends)

I agree Arioch... all semblance of story, plot, and ...just plain common sense went out the window in favor of Toy marketing, offensive racial stereo-typing, BAD writing and Lucus having his ego stroked to the point of nonsensical spouting platitudes that even the youngest teen-adult book reader could realize 'Reverend Jim' Lucas was drinking his own cool-aid with the prequels!
It's sad, Lucus turned us all into adherents to his death-cult heralding the END of STAR WARS which we all breathed a sigh of relief with cheers!

"Yes, Mr Lucas enjoy your money you earned it... but FOR THE LOVE OF SANITY... Let all else occur, give up all possessions and all life and even the hope of the hereafter; but pleeese... DO NOT MAKE ANYMORE STAR WARS Movies!"

George Lucas is a very shrewd business man. He milked Star Wars for all its worth until nostalgia was close to running out. I firmly believe that when he sold the franchise to Disney for -was it 2?- billion dollars, he knew that Star Wars wouldn't survive rebranding itself for modern kids.
You got to respect a man that gets the mouse to sign a rotten deal.
