Disappointment Derby!

Post by CF2 »

Here's a little prediction game to play between pages. Make a guess of the next page that is plausible, but will not actually be the next page. The more likely your prediction the sweeter your victory, but if you guess the contents entirely correct you lose.

For example, if the latest page displayed Alex holding some fruit, and you make the plausible prediction that he will: peel it with a knife and eat it.
If he peels it with a knife and eats it, you lose.
If he instead peels it by hand and eats it, you get a partial win.
If he is put off by the prospect of eating the Loroi produce, and instead offers it to someone, you win big.
An implausible prediction gets you nothing, so guessing that he used the fruit as an improvised weapon, while amusing, counts as a loss.
Jump cuts implying that certain things have happened also count, so if we instead skipped ahead to a post-meal scene and there was fruit peel and a knife together on the table while Alex looked a bit ill, your prediction would be deemed a loss.

Best of luck, and may you be ever so slightly off the mark!

Where's your prediction? Or will you play judge, and resurrect the thread and evaluate it once the new page goes up in about 8 months?

Edit: Anyway based on page 119, I'll be predicting:
- another, this time telepathic message (by farseer) comes in, telling the current shuttle crew that while the attack has been repelled, the damage to the Sala-128 base/planet is permanent, and Sala-128 has to be fully evacuated, and that they'll have to change direction, to aid in the emergency-evacuation.
-if not, Alexander will be shocked by the heartlessness of this crew not to aid immediately.

Ah, post must have been eaten by the ether.

I'm predicting:
Beryl will avoid indicating locations that might cause Alex to become concerned. Talon will attempt to garner more interest in the map and the shuttle, so that Alex spends more time in the cockpit. Narration will show Alex speculating on the possible course of an Umiak fleet based on what they've told him, a prelude of the wunderkind.

Well, considering what we've seen in the flashbacks, Alex is a bit of a wiz with fleet tactics, so I gather he's going to notice something the others might not.
Like the Enemy attack is a feint to likely draw forces away from another area to allow a fast strike force to penetrate and get something.. say the shuttle maybe?

or possibly odd things here and there that point to it being a fake set up to test him..

Or he will casually mention the facial tattoos of the pilots and start a discussion about that, whereupon Beryl will pipe up about the mickey mouse tattoo on his left a**e cheek she saw when he first arrived and all three will grill him on its significance...

Partial Win to all page 120 participants, as we were all far from a near-miss prediction. Try your luck again some time before the next page, I'll edit this once I've thought up my own.

EDIT:
I'm predicting -- Beryl will prompt Alex to start her English lessons and wind up guiding the course of them to quickly come up with a basic working understanding. Meanwhile Talon will do the usual curious foreigner bit and ask about specific words and phrases then try them out, getting praise and corrections.
