Re: Page 222: Take Care What You Choose For Cover

You cannot "turn" a high altitude interceptor into a ground attack aircraft. That would be a totally different machine then.

Re: Page 222: Take Care What You Choose For Cover

And, as I recall, it could only reach its advertised top speed of Mach 3+ by burning out its engines. That´s for the initial Tumanski R-15B like on the one Belenko flew, which still had an impressive Mach 2,83 sustained top speed. (Alas, "sustained" means ~20 minutes until out of fuel...) The versi...

Re: Terran Ship Classes

In the near term, they are limited by the power of currently available engines. They might be able to get something to accelerate at 30G if it was nothing but a Kerbal bundle of engines, but that would be of limited use, even as a torpedo. Kerbal Space Program FTW! Well, that´s at least a bit reass...

Re: Page 223: Most Fortunate!

will they be able to use this ship to shoot at the other ships, and thus disrupt the invasion a bit? That would be suicide an thus not very smart imo. ;) They are afaik in a lone ship sent to investigate their wrecked shuttle, so they may not be in range for other ships to clearly see whats going o...

Re: Terran Ship Classes

so let's just say that nomenclature is not their strong suit . Same here in Germany. We officially only have "Frigates", because "Destroyer" sounds too "aggressive". No kidding. Back ontopic: My concern with the terran fleet is that all of them are so painfully slow. They are NO match to anything U...

Re: "Earth should be about HERE..."

We don't know that. That´s what Tempo said on p66. I mean, that's what she would say if she wanted to deceive Alex. Hm. Deceit? What for? IMHO only necessary if they try to cover up _their_ assault on the Bellarmine when it entered the system, _IF_ it was them. But i think the Loroi actually didn´t...

Re: "Earth should be about HERE..."

There is (at least) one point: We´re "invisible" to the Loroi. We don't know that. That´s what Tempo said on p66. In fact, we have very good reason to suspect that's not the case: the Loroi "dream" Alex found himself in on pages 185 through page 191 . The "dreamer" was clearly responding to Alex's ...

Re: "Earth should be about HERE..."

I don't think automation helps you much here... we're talking about sensor arrays with the diameter of a planet that have to be physically pointed at the target. Hm, from our todays tech level i´d propose an array of satellites, in size/dimensions comparable to our planned LISA and sort of (half?) ...

Re: "Earth should be about HERE..."

I think that the long-range detectability of our diffuse electromagnetic emissions is often overstated. A large array of radio telescopes (like the planned SKA) spaced on opposite sides of the planet for maximum resolution might be able to detect our television/radio signals at a distance of about ...

Re: "Earth should be about HERE..."

Good evening, first post here. Not a native english speaker, but i hope i won´t be "lost in translation" too often... Yes, I'm aware that the Loroi and/or the Umiak would eventually stumble upon human space. Well, in my opinion they definitely will. When this story started, they were in the Naam-sys...
