Re: Fanart: Lego Loroi Cruiser [in-progress]

Your scale is off...Galaxy is 600m (roughly)..if tempest is 750m, then it should be longer. Oops I forgot to mention. The version of the Tempest I have in my plans is actually 2/3 scale. I made that picture a long time ago and I can't recall. But I'm pretty sure the Galaxy is to scale. The reason I...

Re: Fanart: Lego Loroi Cruiser [in-progress]

Very nice! And speaking of blocks. I still have the blueprints for making a 2/3 scale Tempest in Dwarf Fortress. I suppose it could work in Minecraft too. Only problem is the ship is truly gigantic. 750 meters long. A full scale tempest would require a 16x9 fortress map. Which, if you have ever play...

Re: two questions about the Loroi Military

Off topic question, Do Loroi have muscles that allow them to move their ears or are they fixed like most humans ears (though some people can wiggle theirs)? I've just have been wondering this since I first read this comic about a year ago... silly yes. Actually I was wondering this too. Human ears ...

Re: two questions about the Loroi Military

If by mass effect do you mean man-portable coilguns? They would have to be comparable in power to conventional chemical driven weapons because without the recoil-dampening mass effect the coilguns would be too powerful to use without a tripod. I'm really interested in what you mean by "heavily armed...

Re: WIP Discussion (Part 1!)

The exact quote I remember is that loroi men scale to loroi Women at the same ratio as human women scale to human men. So most loroi like Beryl would be at the low end of human male average height. (5"6-6"6) Human basketball players would seem like space marines to them. Fireblade is the exception, ...

Re: A little crossover fun

I played in the Beta of that game. It was pretty fun but I never ended up subscribing. The sheer variety of player names you could come across boggled the mind. Most of them made sense. But there were also the inevitable USS. WHERE IS SULU ships. I flew a cruiser called the USS. Wings of Rain. But i...

Re: Concept Fanart of Future Terran Ship Designs

Tamren, you maybe should have worked out the math on that one before you stated it as possible. What, the fact that outsiderverse ships could dodge them or the missiles turning 90 degrees? Loroi ships have an effective weapons engagement range of 1 light second or 300000km. This is because that is ...

@Battleraptor
I bet the Umiak are just going to laugh, start flying sideways, and watch you try to push your fancy laser torpedoes into a 90 degree turn.

Re: WIP Discussion (Part 1!)

Its hard to estimate because the webcomic is composed of still pictures. But how long do the beams last (or pulse) for when fired? The lasers would tend to "flicker" on and off while shooting at different targets. The split beam seems to convey this. But the other beam weapons like the plasma focus ...

Re: Imagining realistic energy weapons

How much of a muzzle flash do lasers usually have? Beam weapons in general are usually depicted with a cone shaped "flash" emitting from the barrel where the emerging beam inexplicably gets thicker momentarily. Is this just artistic license or does it actually happen? For light to spill out in a "bl...

Re: page 82

How exactly do the Umiak aim those cannon blisters? I assume that what we see is just the end of the barrel poking out of a ball mount. But the way they are oriented makes it looks like all 3 barrels would intersect and not have enough room. Unless they are a lot shorter than I thought.

Re: Concept Fanart of Future Terran Ship Designs

We had this conversation before. IIRC the end consensus was that mass drivers, railguns and other projectile weapons just don't stack up against Outsiderverse energy weapons. The Tempest alone can almost instantly destroy a moving target at 300000km. In order to hit a moving target at that distance ...

Re: Concept Fanart of Future Terran Ship Designs

well i don't think the human weapons are quite so inferior after all both sides seam to use missiles a lot and you can achieve some truly massive damage with a mass driver if you use it properly. If the shots are moving fast enough they can have effects similar to a detonating nuclear device tho th...

Re: Concept Fanart of Future Terran Ship Designs

We don't really have the industrial capacity to start churning out ships. Especially ships with powerful technology we don't fully understand yet. At least until we get up to speed anyway. IIRC we currently use lasers, missiles and mass drivers. Compared to the ships fighting in the comic, these are...

Re: Imagining realistic energy weapons

40k bucks the trend a bit in that the golden age of technology already happened. The power packs they use are highly sophisticated, but poorly understood. Probably the only reason the technology survived at all was because they were so ubiquitous. Another example from fiction which is a little more ...
