Re: Page 91
Doesn't signal strength diminish with distance... something with photons dissipating at a rate of square of the distance? Wouldn't the interception of such a transmission give a general idea of where Sol is, but not necessarily a specific point (sort of like we could pinpoint the area of the sky the...

Re: [Suggestion] Spambot handling rules
I've never seen a bot go past five posts, though assuming that individuals are registering they might just program a work around (though I doubt they read anything here and they just do some automated process and fill in the blanks for registering. If they did read here they would notice that they a...

Re: [Suggestion] Spambot handling rules
Suggestion: Is it possible to limit topic creation? For example, setting a barrier which prohibits a user from creating new topics if they have under a certain number of posts.

Re: Page 90
The same way that we know FTL travel isn't possible. This came up in one of my meetings with the local astronomic society last year. Perhaps all civilizations/species that are advanced enough to achieve FTL travel have no interest talking with a primitive species such as humanity. Kind of like how ...

Re: Page 90
Mjolnir, perhaps you are reading more into the original query than there actually is. It was only in reference to your assertion that imaginary numbers are real. I only took your point one step further and posited the realist and skeptics positions. Let me reiterate: Are numbers real in that they ar...

I've always wondered how sanzai would effect the Three Stooges slap routine... u4ZgVRJ-H8U From my understanding of cannon, physical contact between Loroi only occurs between close/intimate friends. Silly Query: How common is interpersonal slapping/forceful physical communication among close and you...

The lip on the officer next to Stillstorm in panel 3 gives a sense of apprehension. Also is it me or did anyone else think that initially Fireblade and Beryl were going to pull Alex in opposite directions, sort of like being pulled apart by two horses.

Re: Page 90
That last last sentence proceeds from the assumption that induction can readily distill the rules of the universe, but it could very well be our own human perspective which is ordering and projecting reason onto nothing more than a series of coincidences. The rules might fit in our heads but not inh...

Re: Page 90
And real numbers actually exist, do they? Imaginary numbers are as "real" as the natural numbers, integers, real numbers, rationals, complex numbers, quaternions, tensors, and so on. They're all concepts that are defined, described, and related by the same basic framework of logic. And imaginary num...

Re: Couple questions
Humans surely could kick loroi in long term technology race, but I don't think loroi allow that. Earth is like District 9, but backwards, armed loroi anywhere looking interesting technology and asking what it does. ;) Solution: just hide advanced technology in plain sight. *In a Southern accents* W...

Re: Atlantis has landed
Winged spacecraft might be practical if you use an aircraft as a launch vehicle as a way to minimize fuel costs. Also the Buran's demise was perhaps the most depressing space related thing I have ever read about (well maybe second after that Soviet disaster where they lost all their top scientists).

Why lie when Titan is nothing but a pile of hydrocarbons? This assumes than mankind would rather mine space oil rather than develop alternative fuels, though given the myopic policies in the U.S....

Re: Page 90
Extermination perhaps would be the least effective option available to the Loroi for many reasons: A). The Loroi lack sufficient knowledge of Terran space. B). The Loroi cannot Farsense humanity so it is likely there will be stragglers/isolated population pockets. This does not prevent the Umiak fro...

I wonder if Arioch would be willing go through and renarrate the story from another character's perspective after this is all done.
