Re: 173: A Form of Warning or Challenge
Of course they could have put Ellen's suit in a faraday cage to stop it receiving or sending signals but there is no reason to do that; the Loroi would want to learn as much about the suit and the wearer as they could. In fact, that would be a sensible thing to do. After all, they (Stillstorm) beli...

Re: 173: A Form of Warning or Challenge
It's notable that Beryl is quite forthcoming with information. The headpiece being some sort of weapon might not be a well kept military secret, but still something not to outright tell a likely still untrusted alien. Sure, Loroi have problems with telling outright lies (with Mizol being the excepti...

Re: 173: A Form of Warning or Challenge
For something different, it is interesting to see that Beryl was quick to follow up on Talon's prior question, and on the same note as Talon.
Looks like we can pretty much expect most of the Loroi to cheer him on whenever he gives one of them so much as a second glance.

Re: 172: See something you like?
"...or maybe she is an outsider." Wonder if the implants have an effect on the normal Loroi aversion to touching casually - could they possibly make accidental skin contact very uncomfortable to nigh painful for her? So Fireblade disliked the probe attempt on Alex as much as he did? It would explai...

Makes me wonder what she actually had in mind when she asked/suggested to talk about "something else".Murph wrote:I think Talon is going to be "that friend" that always says something inappropriate and/or cringeworthy when you are out somewhere.

Re: 172: See something you like?
Not helping, Talon. And I think I've read something in Insider (and we actually used that tidbit in Beacons ) that Loroi have an inherent aversion to body modifications beyond an occasional tattoo or an earring. So yes, Fireblade noticing Alex's attention to her implant would be reason enough to set...

Re: Miscellaneous Terran question-and-answer thread
I'm also not sure why such a thing would need to be outlawed. As long as you don't give it control of weapons of mass destruction and automated factories, I don't think it does any harm to have an AI in a box somewhere that is self-aware. Sound reasoning, but the problem is that it is that -- reaso...

Re: Miscellaneous Terran question-and-answer thread
Here's another question - what would be humanity's stance towards artificial intelligence in Outsiderverse? I don't think that there will be a true self aware AI with human technology origins, it may still be 'just around the corner' as it has always been for the last decades. But... apart from the ...

Re: Writing Prompts
My take on this was that 'They' pretty much kept the Orgus' presence under wraps and had them sequestered in some remote area on Earth, most probably under surveillance at best or in some sort of research facility/military compound at worst. That in turn means the news of sapient alien life might no...

Re: Writing Prompts
Sorry, could not resist. How come, whenever the grownups think something to be a 'good idea', it means more work for me? Melvin groused. Of course he knew that his mother barely makes ends meet, and him earning some money would help things along, but still... there must be easier jobs around than cl...

Challenge: How to set up a prank for the TCA
Imagine the Loroi actually having made it towards the humans and it would be the first contact of the Loroi with, say, a scout squadron... What could Alex say/do to the Loroi that could turn out into a prank to the humans in turn? Some ideas... Teach the Loroi the Vulcan salute and the iconic "Peace...

Re: Page 170: What I fear...
hi hi Beryl is just going straight for all the Loroi cultural taboos. Eating in groups now? What a deviant! (Also, to paraphrase a quote: 'I'm not interested in finding truth, that is the purview of religion. As a scientist, I'm concerned with quantifying doubt.') I didn't take Tempo for bein...

Re: Page 169: The most messed up!
I do dimly remember that Arioch implied somewhere that Alex might be a rather powerful "telepath/psionic/whatever". I also havn't yet seen any GURPS sheet of him, which is suspicious. But maybe I also simply misinterpreted his comment. Are you perhabs thinking of Arioch stating that Alex sensing Fi...

Re: Page 169: The most messed up!
Templating vs. modification: Sometimes it is easier to build something from scratch using a given model as a template and adding/removing features as you see fit. The Soia have had the Soia-Liron biology as a building block that has already been tried and true - assuming that the Loroi weren't the ...

Re: Page 169: The most messed up!
Would Beryl be in mother hen mode with Alex then? The birthing mother may not have much to do with the raising and training of her child, but there might be some residual instinct to protect her young back in the days when her kind had to worry about rival tribes or predatory threats attacking. Tha...

Re: Page 169: The most messed up!
Beryl maybe the proverbial odd man out so to speak, which is more of a reason to feel miffed: Between her, Alex, and the fighter jocks, she is the outsider. Beryl didn't put it in words, but the message was clear that she considers those two to be superstitious country bumpkins... and of course she...

Re: Page 169: The most messed up!
I find it interesting how close an touchy feely Spiral and Talon are... in contrast to the rest of the Loroi. If I had to guess, it almost looks like they are engaged in courtship rituals. It's the galaxy's most careful game of "I'm not touching you" , as the Loroi sit close enough to share body he...

Re: Page 168: Symbols of fate
For a completely different thing, to me Beryl looks like she's silently fuming at being sort of upstaged by Talon - After all, whether she intends to or not, she is coming on to him with the subtlety of a freight train and made her curiosity quite clear...

They wouldn't. For the simple reason that if Loroi food is usually not agreeable to Human biochemistry, it is most likely the other way round as well.Arent wrote:They can eat Alex. Just not Spiral.Werra wrote:They have to eat somebody if food runs out.
Alex would give them a severe indigestion.
