...suddenly tens of thousands of angry Canucks were riding their Battle Moose into New York state... . Not to discount everything else you said, but I completely lost it here. I just can't get the image out of my head... We don't know what elements go into a plasma foci's color Kyber crystals...

Re: What to Do with Jardin (Fan Fic)

I don't know if you've dug them up yet, but we've actually had pretty extensive discussions on the relative rates of technological advancement for humanity and the Loroi. Just an FYI, but here's something Arioch said - http://www.well-of-souls.com/forums/viewtopic.php?p=17262#p17262 . I think I had...

Re: What to Do with Jardin (Fan Fic)

Oh god. I am an idiot. I fail at mathematics for ever. Please. Kill me. The result was 3,469 tonnes . Not kilotons. The firepower is well in range of Real Sci-Fi weaponry. Oh god. This feels like the famed 'Telepanty' Debacle all over again. Haha, you're good, man. Math errors happen, but that miss...

Re: What to Do with Jardin (Fan Fic)

Also, I was rapidly running towards the nebulous "when Notepad++ says the wordcount is 55,000, stop writing" limit. Kind of a shame, really, I had wanted to have Alex show that picture of a Supermarine Spitfire to Talon, and have her first express disbelief that it was capable of flight, and then i...

That was interesting. Reads kind of like a bridge between the stories you've posted.

Re: What to Do with Jardin (Fan Fic)

Yeah, I figured my math was badly off afterwards, when a friend double-checked me. So I was derping there. And yes, fusion unquestionably has a place as an energy source. You really don't want honking great piles of fullerened antimatter being used as fuel anywhere you plan to inhabit, for reasons ...

Re: What to Do with Jardin (Fan Fic)

Yeah, if I recall correctly, depending on the type of particle/antiparticle annihilation, somewhere between a quarter to half of the energy output gets converted to neutrinos. I'll have to look into that; I'm probably remembering wrong. If the Loroi and Umiak are using some sort of "quantum tweaked...

Re: What to Do with Jardin (Fan Fic)

I assume that the reaction products are more convenient, too: as I recall, normal M/AM reactions produce neutrinos, thereby wasting energy, and some of the processes suggested for engines are supposed to produce similar inefficiencies. If you can get mostly photonic energy results, that would sudde...

Re: What to Do with Jardin (Fan Fic)

Am I derping? Who was Sedel again? Sedel is Tempo's spoken name in Loroi Trade. I could buy Helium-3 fusion, but not hydrogen fusion. Either way though, antimatter seems far more likely, since Bellarmine 's bingo point was at least 10 jumps plus system loiter time away from her tanker, and the Bell...

Re: What to Do with Jardin (Fan Fic)

If you can't make industrial antimatter by 2160, give up and go home. Seriously, the hardest part with making antimatter is the energy required to do so, but by this point in the comic, they have access to the biggest fusion reactor in the game: Sol itself. Park some giant fuck-off toruses in close...

Re: What to Do with Jardin (Fan Fic)

Another interesting addition, Shadow. To add to what dragoon and Tamri have said, humans in Outsider don't yet have the tech to produce antimatter on an industrial scale. The Loroi and Umiak do, but they actually use an exotic matter annihilation process - if I recall the forum discussions correctly...

Re: Miscellaneous Loroi question-and-answer thread

On the subject of inertial damping: my internal model for how the ships using Floater Drive (which is the Loroi and most allied ships) is that the internal inertial dampers mainly protect the passengers and sensitive innards of a ship, while the drive itself uses inertial amplifiers to increase the...

Re: Miscellaneous Loroi question-and-answer thread

Assuming the runway is made of tarmac, that could be a risk (the Loroi may not use hydrocarbon-based surfacers). But, the shuttle wouldn't necessarily need to use the thrusters all the way till contact. Just long enough to bleed enough speed that it doesn't hit the ground as hard. The problem with ...

Re: Miscellaneous Loroi question-and-answer thread

The gear is probably incredibly tough. As Tamri pointed out, we can land pretty heavy aircraft on runways in reality, so it's likely the much more advanced Loroi can do better. The maneuvering thrusters would probably be useful in providing cushioning, too. If you're going to be using the thrusters...

Re: Miscellaneous Loroi question-and-answer thread

The Highland weighs two and a half times what a 747 does, and the mass is spread out over the lifting body, instead of concentrated in a tubular fuselage. It can make a vertical landing on its maneuvering thrusters if it's not carrying too much, but a normal landing on a runway is much safer and mo...

Re: What to Do with Jardin (Fan Fic)

Another interesting installment, Shadow. A couple things I noticed: one, does Stormrage consider Snow White her daughter? You mention "Stormrage's daughter" in the second piece, but have only mentioned her birthing a son, Kamielle. Bollocks, that would be an example of your typographic errors which...

Re: Miscellaneous Loroi question-and-answer thread

I think you're misinterpreting what I said. In my initial post about inertial dampening, I hypothesized that the dampener worked by applying an equal counter-acceleration to an external acceleration. In this way, the crew wouldn't be turned into smears on the walls. Also, as gravity is equivalent t...

Re: Miscellaneous Loroi question-and-answer thread

Right. If you can manipulate gravity, you can uniformly apply an acceleration to your entire ship. That's what I was getting at in the second paragraph of my post. You wouldn't need devices specifically for dampening. This assumes, though, that you can generate an even field such that tidal forces ...

Re: Miscellaneous Loroi question-and-answer thread

Wait, hang on... I thought this was Reed - the armored Loroi next to Fireblade. She's wearing combat armor and carrying what looks like a pistol and rifle both. I know that Talon's the officer Tempo told Jardin to speak to WRT starmaps, that's why I figured Spiral was the other pilot on the shuttle...
