Re: How Taimat Might Work (take it or leave it Arioch)
My thought is that it's an exotic form of helium with unusual arrangements of quarks that makes it unstable but metastable... but I think the specifics are largely irrelevant to how it functions. This could make for an interesting backstory, or maybe just a minor footnote in Loroi history. Members ...

Re: How Taimat Might Work (take it or leave it Arioch)
The major component of Tiamat might well be what we know as ‘Handwavium’.

Re: Off-Topic: Gaming
. . . But table top-wise I run Star Blazers games at conventions locally. I've even converted the rules to take into effect the changes in Space Battleship Yamato 2199. Traveller fan here. Adapting the GURPS sheets for Alex, Beryl, Fireblade, and Tempo to any version of Traveller seems like trying ...

I have always thought of the Evon as Drow-equivalents, even though my Evon emperors have always been named "Graz'zt".

Re: Miscellaneous Loroi question-and-answer thread
Do Loroi know of the wonders of the theramin? The theramin operates on the principle of capacitive coupling, with the player's hand acting as the dielectric. The performer's hand acts as the grounded plate (the performer's body being the connection to ground) of a variable capacitor in an L-C (indu...

Re: MoO II races and their parallels in Outsider
I meant the game which was released in 2003. Playing it was as exciting as watching paint dry. The only amusing thing was the occasional, most likely unintentional humor. I mean, an opress'o'meter slider setting? Really? Yes, that is the one, copyrighted in 2002. Back then, I eventually applied all...

Re: MoO II races and their parallels in Outsider
It has been over a decade since I have played MoO. Re-installed MoO3 last night, and am now on turn 15, using humans on 'Easy' and mostly default settings. Going for Economic/Trade strategy first, may change later. Wait, by MoO3, do you mean that spreadsheet simulator, or the more recent title? S...

Re: What Is Your Favorite Comicbook Character and Why?
I worked for Dart Container. The expansion agent they use in Styrofoam is Pentane, which is only one carbon and one hydrogen atom from Benzene -- a known carcinogen. My church, my home, my former employer (I am retired), and many of my former employer's clients have banned Styrofoam from their prem...

"Researchers Say Wormholes Exist"
Excuse me while I scoff at these headlines, variations of which I remember from my childhood.

Re: [Wolf329] Fanart (now with animation!)
I am surprised that Fireblade's stride is more like that of a model on a catwalk than that of a soldier trained in close-order marching. In real life, if a soldier sashayed like that during Pass In Review, she would be pulled aside and given some special attention regarding her military bearing ... ...

This is off the current topic of discussion. Pasensya na. I recently relocated to the Philippines for retirement. Thanx again, Arioch! You answered my question with the first two paragraphs. The third provided new data.
(I had forgotten the word ‘diral’, used ‘cadre trials’ as a place filler, submitted the post, looked for ‘diral’, added ‘diral’ to the post, and forgot to delete ‘cadre trials’.)

@Arioch: How are those who fail their diral “cadre trials” usually treated by their peers and relatives? Are they shunned or merely disdained? Does it depend on caste and whether it is military our civilian?
Thanx!

GURPS (3e) Space, chapter 10 “Stars & Worlds”, pp146-164, is a decent guide for world-building, and chapter 11 is a useful guide for constructing civilizations.

Re: What Are All The Types Of Villains You Can Think Of?
It is easy.
Villains act; heroes react.
Heroes have morals; villains have work-ethic.
Villains sacrifice others for personal gain; heroes sacrifice themselves to benefit others.
Sometimes, however, it just depends on who is on which side of the airlock.

If Emperor Greywind accidentally flatulates during during any official event, those in attendance are supposed to pretend like nothing happened. Why? Because . . .
