Re: Miscellaneous Umiak/misc. races question-and-answer thread
FTL travel in real-space is not possible, as far as we know... Current understandings of physics suggest it may be plausible IRL. The Alcubierre drive is a concept for an IRL FTL drive developed in the early 90s that is compatible with Einstein's work. The drive functions by compressing real space ...

Re: The Astronomy Thread
The majority of the methods listed are only available in rare, exotic cases, like when the primary is a neutron star, or the primary transits a background star. There are really only three methods that have produced a decent number of planet detections: transit, radial velocity, and direct imaging....

Re: The Astronomy Thread
By "surveyed" they mean the star systems visited and orbits charted. The stars themselves are visible from a great distance, especially a G star like Sol. That makes way more sense. Unless the plane of the planetary orbits happen to be edge-on and transit the star, I think it would be very hard to ...

Re: The Astronomy Thread
Seems I stand corrected then. Not sure how I missed that. Considering the state of exoplanet discovery today though, if I were Mr. Jardin my first reaction would be: https://i.kym-cdn.com/entries/icons/original/000/023/967/obiwan.jpg I mean, 200 LY really doesn't seem like that far, and Sol isn't pa...

Re: The Astronomy Thread
If I recall correctly, the Earth has the distinct feat if being 'louder' than the Sun in the RF spectrum. In some frequencies, but not others. If I recall correctly, the gas giants are also "louder" than either the sun or the Earth in some frequencies as well. It's related to the way that charge pa...

Re: The Astronomy Thread
There is too much we don't know about the cosmos yet to properly discern habitable planets from such distances... I wouldn't put my money in any such 'discoveries' being accurate. TL10 civs would certainly have access to large space based telescopes, as well as exoplanet discovery techniques more s...

Alex is now in charge of the diplomatic mission to the Loroi, but he's also without a ship or any way to contact home, and totally dependent on the goodwill of his captors. If he were to conclude that Loroi could not be trusted with the location of Earth, then the diplomatic mission has failed and ...

New trailer: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K7ior9JoUE0 I'm seeing what others are saying about the ambient tech level and other complaints. From a lore perspective, I'm starting to get anxious about Deserts of Kharak. Reddit thread: https://www.reddit.com/r/homeworld/comments/401hgq/homeworld_dese...

Re: Stars in Shadow
Any chance for a Linux version? I see someone else on Greenlight had questions about that too. Maybe some day I set up a dual boot with Windows, but till then, I'm 'nix only. [EDIT]Checked the other forum, found this thread . Assuming the PC version does well, I'm willing to consider investing in a ...

Re: Homeworld: Shipbreakers
Holy cow, the thread's not dead. To be honest, I don't know how I feel about Deserts of Kharak. I was not pleased at all with the story of HW2, and the heavy injection of (for lack of a better term) "magic" that changed HW1's science fiction into HW2's techno-fantasy. So depending on how things turn...

Re: Miscellaneous Terran question-and-answer thread
Actually, how many admirals are there in the Terran Colonial Fleet that started within it? Or are the majority of admirals in the Fleet drawn from the navies of the TCA's member nations? It's probably a significant number. I'm always suprised how many admirals the US Navy has; it's almost as many a...

Re: Forum RPG, anyone?
Looks like I'll have enough free time to play for the foreseeable future. So that makes 5 potential players. Anybody care to GM? I can see if I can come up with a good story if nobody else wants to.

For those of you that don't get it the writing arm thing was referencing paper work I was actually wondering about that :) I thought you might have mistyped "make sure it's NOT your writing arm." I don't particularly like going out to eat when i'm in uniform because no matter where I go I've got pe...

Re: Miscellaneous Terran question-and-answer thread
I give my left arm to be able to serve in a western Army, all the better if I could do so in an air-force. And trust me I know from experience western militaries are not something to get exited about also if you give up anything make sure it's your writing arm  Currently deployed myself, and I...

Homeworld: Shipbreakers
Looks like Blackbird Interactive got the rights to some Homeworld IP and have re-branded Hardware: Shipbreakers as Homeworld: Shipbreakers . An FYI, Blackbird is made up of many of the same people who worked on the first Homeworld game (one of my all time favorites!) On the one hand, I'm very excite...

We were playing w/all the expansions IIRC. Unless you can join an expanded game without said expansions... Sorry I had to drop out early guys There was a bit of moving that needed done and it took me by suprise. BTW, was the AI Hiver able to take a colony from the orange whales?

I am. Looks like TheUnforsaken hasn't been on since October 10 though Should we keep on going and maybe select a new GM?
