We shouldn´t be so stoopid and start a war before we´re really ready (read: ahead in tech). ´39 was too early, ´42 with full momentum would have served better. 20/20 hindsight says you're right. But only one human and zero Umiak knows this and the Loroi can control who that one human ever gets to talk to. Given that if the Loroi do choose to purge humanity, they will go to great lengths to prevent anyone else finding out about the human Lotai, there is no reason for the Umiak to use humans...

crazy guy: it is just possible humans have better ground pounder stuff compared to the main players, more because of refinement and perfection of equipment not basic technology. I'd imagine humans ground forces would give the Loroi, at least, some cause for concern. A whole army with Lotai? Eeechh!

Its kind of grisly, but i am sure they recovered a number of bodies and have them in storage for later detailed study.
