Re: The science behind Attack on Titan/Shingeki no Kyojin
Sounds like you should try One Punch Man if you haven't already. It's not really sci-fi, but it's one of the few recent good Anime that evades the whole angst + highschool drama crap.

Re: Homeworld: Shipbreakers
So. Mission centric spoilers coming up. Don't click until you have passed mission 8. In Tombs of The Ancients, it becomes clear that the reason there are so many wrecks hidden in the equator on Kharak is because of the Hyperspace core pirating nearby jump-capable ships and summoning them towards it,...

Re: Homeworld: Shipbreakers
It from the recent media blitz it appears that Kiith Gaalsien stumbled across Taiidan or Hiigaran technology in the desert and engineered their hover vehicles from the lost tech. It seems this is what gives them their edge in battle. It is not "normal" tech in the setting.

Re: Homeworld: Shipbreakers
It doesn't make it less true however. If we knew that the sun was going to destroy all life on earth in 100,000 years instead of 2 billion years, we'd probably look at interstellar colonization a little differently, even if it made no real difference. Keep in mind that the sun will sterilize all mul...

Re: Homeworld: Shipbreakers
I think they meant the "Our World is Dying" thing more as to say that Kharak is nearing the end of its geological lifespan / the star it orbits is beginning its slow march to becoming a red giant. Whether or not it's in the last 100 or last 100,000 years, the planet is still "dying", though they lea...

Re: The Astronomy Thread
hi hi Really, no way at all? Luxembourgh isn't small? Luxembourg isn't heavily influenced by its neighbors? Ok, if you say so. Edit: Also interesting, because Liechtenstein is a country as well, and because every member state of the European Union has a monetary union. If having a monetary u...

Re: The Astronomy Thread
Luxembourgh is in no way relateable to pluto. The comparison is pretty weak, IMO.
A better example would be Liechtenstein as it has a monetary union with switzerland and is not fully autonomous... but it's still a silly comparison to make. Apples and Pears and all that.

Presumably it was there to convert the martian atmosphere into rocket fuel for the ascent stage that the rest of his crew escaped on early on in the story.

Can you find that tool for me? Even if it's gibberish, that sounds hilarious.
EDIT: I think I found what you are referring to, but it looks pretty complex. Might be worth a shot though. Will look into it further after I finish being lazy.

Re: Heirs to The Tempest: Goddesses of Blood: Loroi Outpost
Dwarf Therapist is already out, so I've looked into modding civilizations a little. Managed to turn the dwarves into Loroi, with a 10:1 female/male ratio. However, I'd have to test-play until the first migrant wave to know for certain if it works. Because of the nature of Dwarf Fortress, the randomi...

Sadly, ratio's in area tend to increase exponentially where gravity is concerned, because of that whole gravity well thing.

Re: The Astronomy Thread
When scientists started discovering and creating new elements, like Nobelium, they didn't say "Oh my gosh, there are too many elements on the periodic table, we need to reclassify some of these, and besides they decay too fast to be important anyway." They just expanded the periodic table. Aside fr...

Re: The "Real Aerospace" Thread
Maybe I didn't make myself clear enough. He didn't use the RTG for energy for the rover , the electricity he saved comes from not having to operate the built-in rover heater. The rover either couldn't tap enough energy out of the RTG to do anything at all as it was designed to only do the fuel conve...

Re: The "Real Aerospace" Thread
This is a month late but, the RTG didn't produce energy, it produced heat. The rover didn't have the equipment necessary to convert heat into electricity.RedDwarfIV wrote:*snip about RTG*
Also, nice picture of apollo 16 .

Heirs to The Tempest: Goddesses of Blood: Loroi Outpost
With the recent release of 0.42.02 a funny thought hit me. Wouldn't it be fun to do a play-by-committee or Hotseat Let's Play of Dwarf Fortress with a modded Loroi Civilization as the playable race? The process is simple: Turn a normal dwarf civilization and language into that of elves, then add a c...

I think Alex has connected the dots. He's an intelligent man and she's clearly spelling out that she's more then she seems without outright saying the words. Like she's trying to make this part of her job clear to him without looking like she's aiding a potentially dangerous race of demi-loroi, whic...
