Re: A Reflection on the Hypothetical [fanfic] [FREE ALCOHOL]

I see... I found the website and read a couple of the top rated stories. They were weird enough to be interesting without actually being scary, which is good. Sleep is good after all ^_^ And basically it's fan fiction related to crazy X-files based material. Interesting, but not what I was aiming fo...

Re: A Reflection on the Hypothetical [fanfic] [FREE ALCOHOL]

Never heard of it. However the 'style' was actually a deliberate choice in this case... I was trying to make a seemingly historic recording type writing for my intro, because doing it from a first person while trying to give enough background info wasn't working out for me :P After all if i suddenly...

Re: Distraction thread

Open terrain the benefit goes for the guy who has the best target acquisition skills... and sorry but that means that helicopter still wins on large flat terrain... although arguably the BEST anti-tank weaponry on that terrain is the A-10. because a simple dive plus a couple turns left and right put...

Re: A Reflection on the Hypothetical [fanfic] [FREE ALCOHOL]

How you know you are bored: When rather than playing a computer game: you write 1,200 words towards a fanfic writing far more serious than the other ones you read... Should i separate my own thread or keep all such writings tidily in once place? Another possibility is that people will hate my own wo...

Distraction thread

I have discovered i've managed to trigger the break-up of at least 5 threads so far this season and i haven't even been trying. First i compare the unsheathed to close air support, and spawn a huge discussion about what aircraft are awesome... Then i discuss the possible worries of a certain group o...

Re: A Reflection on the Hypothetical [fanfic] [FREE ALCOHOL]

actually i do wonder, do Loroi have 'unseemly' body hair that would encourage the invention of first the razor and later the safety razor?

Come to think of it, given their society wouldn't it be considered 'childish' to use a safety razor? (because a TRUE Loroi would not need such a safety measure)

Re: A Reflection on the Hypothetical [fanfic] [FREE ALCOHOL]

sadly my own writing would be somewhat removed from Alex, till after the war. I have images of a Umiak attack on a Loroi system with humans manning various freighters that are desperately trying to maintain the supply lines for both their allied warships and to assist the planet itself... And all th...

Re: A Reflection on the Hypothetical [fanfic] [FREE ALCOHOL]

honestly? chemistry is universal, between all points in the universe as far as we can tell... CH3C3OH is a rather simple molecule to memorise and i'm almost certain there would be a source of it on a Loroi starship, either in food form, or some other useful purpose like cooling liquid ;) Once alex s...

Re: Sustainable Systems and Nuclear Energy

There are 2 things which drive nuclear power. First, running the plants is surprisingly cheap, cheaper than coal, gas, or oil plants. This leads to excellent profit margins and that means the guy who builds it gets lots of money from it over it's long lifespan. Secondly, it is not only large but it ...

Re: A Reflection on the Hypothetical [fanfic] [FREE ALCOHOL]

the captain isn't allowed a drink? SHE'S THE CAPTAIN it's her job to delegate tasks, so obviously she can have a couple quiet ones after checking the night shift captain is on duty. When a 'couple' becomes 'far too many' all depends on the captain of course. Also: how could Alex get intoxicated by f...

Re: The Aircraft Image Posting Contest

amusingly the SR71 used cutting edge stealth technology, it had a radar profile smaller than most of the fighters used in it's day, so in that regard it was a success. The PROBLEM actually came from the engine exaust, and your misreading your additives, they added something (cobolt?) as an additive ...

Re: Some questions about outsider

clean energy? what exactly IS it? something that doesn't damage the atmosphere? something that doesn't destroy the environment? or something that you can ignore the leftover impacts by putting them somewhere far away from yourself? The only way to make nuclear energy 'clean' is to build a nice nucle...

Re: Some questions about outsider

Clover, everyone knows it fixes nitrogen and thus must be great. Unfortunately most people don't stop and consider this: It makes the nitrogen in it's roots, roots are obviously PART OF THE LIVE PLANT, correct? Issue: How do we get it out? We have to kill the plant or wait for it to die. This latter...

If you can win with half the effort of your opponent, then why not?

But even I don't tempt Murphy by discussing some things three times in one day :p

Once or twice usually suffices.

Re: Loroi abilities, and Loroi Judo

I think Loroi military training would involve teaching their students to sense minds from afar, identify numbers and to passively (think the ability to see movement out the corner of your eye) changes and movements of minds around them. Those with telekinesis would first be taught how to use their p...

Re: Some questions about outsider

As I come directly from a farming background, i can reveal what that graph actually means: First, development of new breeds of grains, the understanding of the genetic potential of which was only developed in the 1930-50's era. And then from then Yeild increase has been limited to developing new cro...

Re: Page 99

I think their handling would improve again if we added winglets, but that is largely academic.

I did find it amusing to learn that fact that the classic oval wing had lower manoeuvrability than when they simply removed the wing-tips however ^_^.

Re: Insider, Updates

do you honestly think that the people in charge would rather throw around large amounts of money, or watch sport in progress? Honestly? Look to the Americas cup after it got won from the New Zealanders, they built multi million dollar boats and rather than just race them to see how awesome they were...

don't mention them? seriously? last 3 times I did I was about right regarding the date of their delivery :p

Either my luck is reversed, or I'm slightly telepathic.

My guess is happiness in the next 2 weeks :p

I'm sorry but you posted the wrong picture.
Spitfire handling was found to improve on the 'clipped wing' variants.
