Re: Comparative Cartography.
hi hi I certainly can't think of any good way to represent 3d space on a 2d surface for something that is as thick and cluttered as the galactic disk. It's either get a 3d program, or group things into smaller clusters. (My using "hi hi" is something that I started up ages ago for trivial reasons. I...

Re: Comparative Cartography.
hi hi Traveler doesn't really have much respect for the dimensions and layout of the real life galaxy like Outsider does, but you can merge these two maps together on your own without any trouble. The Traveler map and the Outsider map both have a scale in parsecs that you can match up. Merging these...

Re: You're gonna carry that weight [fanart]
hi hi I can speak from experience that coloration in Outsider is a bit flexible at times. Love the pic! Hoping for more. If the impressionists taught us anything, it is that color is subjective, and highly dependent on the lighting conditions. Nice art - thank you for posting it. You're welcome! Sho...

I've been using this hosting provider for a long time and never had any problem. I guess it might be time to find a new one.

I've known that Andromeda was visible to ancient astronomers, so we could probably see it if it weren't for light pollution.
Those jets though... dang. The universe is filled with mind boggling things.

Re: 210 Far-sensing?
hi hi This isn't far-sensing. This is regular sensing. Far-sensing involves light-year scales. Anyway, I don't see Tempo or Cloud in the current telepathic visualization. There's enough silhouettes for Fireblade, the two guards, the two pilots, and Beryl. But I don't see a corpse of Cloud, even thou...

Re: Page 209: Damn bugs and their chatter! Putting Alex to sleep!
hi hi My first thought is that physical contact does have some influence on how Alex is perceiving the other Loroi, and maybe all of them huddled together to sleep is what caused Alex to be able to sense their presence. But he also didn't see anything when Beryl was touching him quite deliberately. ...

Re: When Reality Is Wilder Than Fiction... Improvising and Mixing
hi hi For my setting, the 'tractor beams' are a modification with mass added to another scifi tech that propels ships. Is this setting related to Outsider in some way? It is my understanding that to get 1g out of 1rpm, you need 895.47 meters. But at 3 rpm, you only need less than 100. While 3 rpm mi...

Re: The Death Of The Heavy Scifi Battleship
hi hi It's a little bit of a contrived setup, but having fighters being optimal requires a bit of contrivance. 1. 10 seconds is a lot of time for a computer, and Kirklin mines are generally regarded as very effective against high velocity missiles. Since their trajectory is locked in as soon as they...

hi hi Direct imaging only works for detecting very large planets that are very far away from the primary. This is really only true for current telescopes like the Hubble, which was never really designed for this task in the first place, and is very small compared to the size of vessels that are bein...

Can you imagine trying to operate camera controls over the entirety of the Death Star, using their tech level of interface controls? Just how many kilometers of corridor are there in a small moon of that size? I suppose a droid could do it.

hi hi An interesting map of the local neighborhood out to 10 parsecs (32.6 light years), based on Gaia mission data, including known exoplanets. https://gruze.org/galaxymap/10pc/ Today I learned what a Stromgren Sphere was. :D Comparing this to the local bubble map, the Loroi and Umiak really are a ...

Re: If Loroi Rocket Drives Were Real This Is How Exhaust Plumes Would Look
hi hi As I stated before, whether you see much plume or not indicates just how much exaust is leaving the nozzle. As I stated before, this is not correct. Look at ion thrusters. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ion_thruster#/media/File:NEXIS_thruster_working.jpg .00027~ tons of mass every second is sti...

Re: If Loroi Rocket Drives Were Real This Is How Exhaust Plumes Would Look
hi hi If anything, the exhaust plumes are a little bit short, rather than long, since the exhaust velocity is near the speed of light. Of course there are going to be concessions for viewer readability. Lasers are fired in glowing bolts, rather than being invisible to the naked eye, and engine plume...
