Re: New Page 135 - Barsam Ex Machina
To think, all this could have been avoided if they'd just got on the courier in the first place.

Re: Sci-Fi/Space Opera Shows (Current or Upcoming) On Stream
I loved the concept of Dark Matter, but the execution was... just painful, especially when Firefly exists. It seemed like they were trying too hard to copy the tropes of Firefly without any real substance of their own. I've watched Firefly and Dark Matter ... I have to say, I didn't notice any subs...

Re: Sci-Fi/Space Opera Shows (Current or Upcoming) On Stream
Thirding Planetes . The ending went into kind of politically weird territory, what with INTO accepting the demands of terrorists, but the reasoning was understandable and this isn't so much a criticism as me being perplexed by the actions of characters who aren't even part of the main cast. Its a go...

Re: Sci-Fi/Space Opera Shows (Current or Upcoming) On Stream
To expand on what Zarya said, because SyFy is only dropping the broadcast rights, the company that actually produces The Expanse can just sell them to someone else. This means that The Expanse is not dead. Doesn't change whether you should quit cable or not, just thought I'd point it out since a lot...

Re: Kinetic impactors and other space weapons
Something the WH40K meme did not take into consideration is that if it is expensive for you to push a rock towards a planet, its going to be significantly more expensive for the target to deflect it. The closer the rock gets to the target, the more delta-V is required to change its course.

Re: Homeworld: Cataclysm (Emergence) Rerelease
hi hi I tried multiple times to play Homeworld 2, and never made it past the third level. Curse that stupid shipyard. Maybe I'll have to give Cataclysm a try, cause I enjoyed Homeworld 1. As someone who has played Homeworld 1 and Homeworld Cataclysm, I preferred the latter. The story felt more inte...

Re: Miscellaneous Terran question-and-answer thread
Apparently that's largely due to spacesuit gloves, which are difficult to work with as a result of their design. To a lesser extent, the rest of the suit also resists movement, making EVAs very hard work. Those are both caused by gas-pressure design. Mechanical counter-pressure suits don't have this...

Re: Miscellaneous Terran question-and-answer thread
I was reminded of a discussion I had earlier about the Donnager battle in The Expanse , where I noted that one of the points showing the Martians did not have the right mindset for a war was that even after Captain Yao announced battle stations, the majority of the crew wore fabric uniforms througho...

Re: Mr. Arioch, have you by any chance heard of this?
In the very first tactical engagement, the protagonist is presented with a supposed tactical dilemma which has an incredibly obvious solution that is apparent as soon as the impeller/sidewall/weapon interaction is described (which is, in a nutshell, that the long tube-like ships are invulnerable on...

Cool ship! Though at first glance I wondered if you'd used the drawing I did years back. Then I checked, yours is very different. It was the hammerhead that threw me. Rest of the image is good too. Almost looks like a shot from the actual webcomic (character style is different enough to tell its not).

Re: Miscellaneous Terran question-and-answer thread
Because information travels at the speed of a starship, it takes time for information to travel from one location to another. I was thinking about this. Is there anything preventing the employment of comm drones that hop between two star systems? The idea being that at each jump point, you have an ...

The first book of the series, On Basilisk Station, is the best one if you plan on reading any Honorverse novels.

Re: The "Real Aerospace" Thread
Just watched the video for that VTOL electric plane again. Is it just me, or did they choose a really inefficient setup for forward flight? The wing is right at the back, so the forward fans have to work to hold the nose up. Surely this would seriously affect flight time? Wouldn't the ideal plan be ...

So... a nice place to ride out the heat death of the universe?GeoModder wrote:Imagine that, this borderline star would see the end of the universe if there was an end to it. Its fusion process is simply too 'slow' to convert enough hydrogen in time.

Re: The Astronomy Thread
One day humans will sail among the stars and find it all terribly mundane and boring. Until then, let's gape at these movies filmed by probes passing beyond where any of us can go, with a sense of childlike wonder. I´m not that confident. Between the insane amount of resources (specially fuel) it w...

In several Pauline epistles, and the First Epistle of Peter, slaves are admonished to obey their masters, "as to the Lord, and not to men".[88][89][90][91][92] However, masters were told to serve their slaves "in the same way"[93] and "even better" as "brothers",[94] to not threaten them as God is ...

Not sure if those two articles fit here or in that real aerospace thread. However, as they are about nuclear batteries, their safety and plutonium, I think its more fitting to post them here. I think any help the Loroi would be giving to humanity would come in the form of technology, probably in exchange for raw materials carried from human space by human cargo vessels. The idea being to bring humanity to a point where it can defend itself, and presumably start sending warships of its ow...
