Re: Stillstorm laughed...

In that case Stillstorms vision of relaity must be exceptionally limited...pretty much to "how I want thingy to be". Everything Kikitik said makes perfect sense and there is nothing to contradict it...so it does bear no resemblance to the Iraq example. Err...there's nothing to prove anything he sai...

Re: Page 89

But Alex didn't see a battle. Err. I assume Fred means the current one, in which case, Alex has been on the bridge watching the whole time. I rather assume any magnification system that can clearly pick up enemy vessels at those ranges are going to give Alex an excellent opportunity to see the weap...

Re: Glowing Uniforms?

Possible, but Tempo and Stillstorm spend a fair bit of time on the bridge doing things yet their tabs are unlit until panel 72. I'm also thinking that the Doranzer medical technicians present when Alexander wakes up would be "on duty" if they're present in the infirmary. Fireblade's haven't been li...

Re: Will Outsider get a wiki?

I just don't think a wiki is necessary. I've never had a problem with the Insider; it's perfectly satisfactory for finding information.
I don't understand the complaint about finding information in it.

Re: Uncanny resemblance.

Sorry, no, gelatinous space octopi with glowing eyes would be unable to fill the Lorikin role in the narrative. Specifically, that of answering the question of "what happened to the elves?" I suppose they COULD, in THEORY, be some sort of extradimensional horror that replaced the space-elves after ...

...Even ones that were in service only fifty some years before? You might be thinking early nineteenth, perhaps eighteenth century ships. The Victorian era is later 19th. They're not using smoothbore cannons. They're certainly still inferior, and it's highly doubtful they could sink a battleship fro...

Make it stop, this tune is annoying, I've gotta shoot Umiak in the morning! :D

Re: Uncanny resemblance.

Ultimately it is the emotional element of the story that actually matters. If you (Darth Cloaked Guy) find that you've picked too similar a stage or setting, you should be able to change that without changing the story itself. If your story depends on the fact that your space elves are named Loriki...

Re: Page 88

Few wars are fought between good and evil; most are fought between one good and another good. I think the problem here is the fundamental assumption that there must be a good guy and a bad guy for a story to work; one shining, if potentially flawed, hero and one evil S.O.B. who murders whole popula...

Literally the only one we have significantly observed is Tictac-27. I don't think we can pass judgement on a species bent on dominating the galaxy yet. ;)

Re: Concept Fanart of Future Terran Ship Designs

Essentially everything in space sci-fi is silly. Honestly, who the hell would even send out a manned ship to do battle in space? It's 2010 and we're beginning to kill each other with robots, are we really going to put squishy people in warships and slug it out old-timey style in 200 years? That, ir...

Point, that would be a more than adequate method of testing a technology. Thanks for correcting me. ;>> Hmm. What if the Umiak are actually (in comparable terms) the 'good guys'? ;) If you think about it, they are more industrious, less concerned about honour, pragmatic, willing to accept surrender,...

Re: Page 88

Whats to say they didn't? The Umiak could have been stepping into the Steppes for some time now trying to provoke attacks. How would the Loroi have known if their forward intelligence gathering was reliant on the farseers? If they'd been attempting to test the jammer through battle, don't you think...

Re: Page 88

Stillstorm is cold. Tashy likes. What I'm wondering above all is; how much of this is a lie? Umiak would probably want to test out a big strategic weapon like the sensor jammer, but it seems as though he's saying they sent the fleets out concurrently with deployment of the jammer. That seems odd to ...

I don't think that's likely, really, but they aren't a hive mind, so total cohesion doesn't seem likely either.
It's possible that there are different factions who view serving the whole differently, a bit like Kzer-za and Kohr-ah if you will.

What like this? http://neoshinka.files.wordpress.com/2008/06/logh_die_manly_400.jpg I loved that series. If you asked me to say whether Gunbuster or LOGH was better all you would hear from me for a while was a lot of stammering and half starts of words. The thing about Gunbuster is, it's wonderful ...

Re: Page 86

@Tash they are not going to admit it, nor do they need to, they only need to scare them, so maybe they will ask for something unimportant or be destroys, so the loroi will take the option of running away. Aha, potentially, but it is generally better to say nothing than to say something which may ti...

Re: Armor values

Based on observation of the Naam battle, it appears that turreted weapons- blasters and possibly pulse cannons- do have a wide field of fire. It hardly seems to be a matter of having to turn about and point straight at the enemy to fire; in fact, based on visual evidence and what I'm reading from Ar...

2) they're mostly out of gas, if the superheavies are dead in the water perhaps that first joust was an attempt to scare them out of the system to allow resupply in. -O That seems like an unwise thing to admit, though, given a ship that can't move or maneuver is one that will never get into plasma ...

Pffft! And I thought I was the pessimist. Yes. The Loroi have a bunch of advantage over humans. HOWEVER. The biggest advantage they have over other races they don't have with humans. Namely the ability to mind read and farsee us. Which is a rather significant issue. Plus, nothings written in stone ...
