Re: Miscellaneous Loroi question-and-answer thread

That's explained in the Loroi society section (?), her caste only speaks when they're going to kill you. So if she talks to him Alex pretty much screwed. Her cold demeanor though? Alex yelling can be misinterpreted as a challenge. Canonically it hasn't been stated as to why the Teidar don't speak. ...

hmmmm, I must have missed or overlooked this part when I first read: "....A variety of side effects can result from amplification, again varying by individual, including headaches, fatigue, nausea, temporary impairment of vision, or reduction in effective PK skill. Re: WIP Discussion (Part 1!)

The simplest explanation would be the realization that it's a race, or that Humans are pretty much sitting right on top of the new planed front of the Umiak.

And especially unexploited. The Umiak may or may not have another means to bypassing Farseers, but a species with that trait inherent and in a position of military weakness is ripe for enslavement and mass cloning. And it is known how nicely the Umiak treat their allies/subjects/slaves. And how wou...

Re: Page 117: I will demonstrate!

...you think that the knowledge of humanity will affect the Umiak more than the Loroi? And that the Loroi as a species will quickly and easily transition from inheritors of an ancient and powerful precursor empire to petri dish experiments and victims of evil alien precursors? Huh? I... I don't.......

Re: Bellarmine's route to Naam (re: page 118)

You have to look at this from Alex's perspective: he doesn't have much intel on the history of the war and the Loroi in general. Imagine you're a blue-skinned alien who is rescued by the crew of German U-boot after his ship was shot down in the Atlantic by unknown attackers, presumably the American...

Re: Page 117: I will demonstrate!

the biggest problem with the genocide idea is that it makes no sense from a story telling perspective. the comic is about Alex and his quest to find out who destroyed his ship, in fact the whole Loroi/Umiak war will likely be eclipsed by this quest by the end of the story. honestly there is no way ...

To everyone else commenting on these posts, I'm just trying to explain my thought process to a moderator who called me a fool. That's all. The use of that proverb seemed pretty playful to me Galactic Scholar, you don't need to defend yourself so strongly you made a playful bet and it was called. Yo...

Re: Miscellaneous Loroi question-and-answer thread

Lifting a car means very little, and such a comment tells me you don't really appreciate the difference between a hard laborer and someone who only lifts weights. As for Women soldiers doing worse in combat, well that depends. All modern military standards had to be lowered to accomodate women and a...

Re: Miscellaneous Loroi question-and-answer thread

There are a lot of things about ancient (and not so ancient) warfare that are poorly known. I imagine that for every famous or semi-famous female warrior we do know about, a lot more died unrecorded in battle-much like their male counterparts. A lot of the time Female warriors in history have fough...

Re: Page 117: I will demonstrate!

Mind you, if it comes to that, humans would have nothing to lose anymore. Stuffing a run-down, obsolete freighter with the needs to build at least a stable outpost, if not a full colony and repopulate would still be better than doing nothing at all. In a more extreme case, they could hide themselve...

Re: Page 117: I will demonstrate!

Yeah, it may be that "Zero" is the greatest number possible in the available time-frame. Then again, the colony mission doesn't necessarily have to be well equipped or to have high odds of succeeding to be worth sending in this situation. A large bulk carrier with a few hundred women, a several tho...

You guys do realize that Tempo probably made sure Alex was seen & acknowledged by the Barsam & Historians *exactly* because she wanted them to know & prevent any "accidents" or "cover ups"? Re: Page 117: I will demonstrate!

Heck, I would be surprised if Humanity isn't equipping and sending out as many colony ships as possible on secret deep colonization missions as insurance against 'glassing' too. I'd hate to burst your bubble, but the amount of time until Umiak encroachment on their territory begins only a few years...

Re: Page 117: I will demonstrate!

As it is, humans don't have enough clear and actionable value to outright demand their imperial-descent-narrative be changed. Generally it's not about being on equal terms as it is being in the best position possible as a client race, although techwise humanity is far behind Arioch has emphasized t...

Unless you deliberately go the old school route, but then again that's probably Dwarf Fortress meets X in space. In 16-bit!
