Re: Page 86
The two cases I see are these: 1) one of the other scout ships was picked up by Umiak significantly more quickly than the 10 jump Bellarmine. Maybe some sort of scout or com probe was jumped into the system with said information, or perhaps they fired first then realized their mistake upon looking a...

Re: Page 85
Exactly what would I cite? I asked you to provide a Particle emitter or accelerator whatever you would like to call it, thats capable of being efficent as you describe... becuase you are going on and on how railguns are not.. and how Particle Weapons are BETTER in terms of energy consumption. 1) th...

Re: Page 85
@BattleRaptor I am loath to wade into these flame wars (although what passes for them in this forum isn't nearly as free wrangling as might appear in other corners of the internet), however in this case I feel I need to add more information. 1) if you correct yourself in further posts it may be usef...

Re: Page 85
2 points: 1) the Loroi timeline is not in wartime and is largely due to their cultural traditions, not their actual capacity. So just using simple math isn't really going to give you a reasonable approximation. Much like the 1/2+7 rule for creepiness while dating. Perhaps humans just maintain a high...

Re: Page 85
I will just note to be slightly contrary BattleRaptor that in your example there were pieces of information that were novel (i.e. spoked wheels), some that would require synthesis of what they see with what they can do (seats -> saddle) and that all of the examples in question ASSUME that with the o...

Re: Page 85
I'm going to only make few points in the whole technology debate. 1) alchemy / medieval fireworks. Sometimes you can get lucky and use stuff you don't *really* understand. This *could* be the Loroi Pulse cannon being a sort of bastardized version of the Historian's, but more likely it's mostly a pro...

Re: Page 85
As I recall Lotai (mask) as I recall is only a trait that Loroi (and possibly other psionic powered races [although to my knowledge no others have been introduced yet]) can train hard to actively suppress their natural signature thereby not showing up on psionic "radar". As far as we know Humans are...

Re: Page 85
Just to note ignoring if it's in the right direction or not the only real factor is closing time at the given velocity, as the Loroi have a variety of directions that are perpendicular to the Umiak fleet's direction of travel and all they need to do is clear the Umiak's weapon range by the time the ...

Re: Page 85
Perhaps not, but I think it's probably still useful for the new Humaniti diplomatic officer to know stuff about the common enemy. Also it is quite general information and isn't really too specific like how the "far sensing device" works would be.

Re: Page 84
I do think along the same lines as mjolnir that some sort of wedge of armour between the main ship and the engines might help the ship survive loss of containment in an engine by sparing much of the ship from the resulting blast. It could allow a ship to continue functioning somewhat (perhaps under ...

Re: Page 84
Yeah my unclarity on the explosion was is this a sensor reading from another ship, or is the viewer floating in space. If it was a sensor, the explosion might not need to get that big to cause it to white out, just think about home movies that pan towards the sun for a bit. I wasn't entirely complet...

Re: Page 84
random points: 1) "heat" only matters if there is matter to conduct it. Radiation is likely to be the cause of death for the Loroi on the ship, not shrapnel or some sort of pressure wave. 2) It looks more like torpedo scale or smaller explosion to me so either it's the same thing as drawing the ship...

Re: what names mean
"God of war" here. If you follow the languages back to latin, otherwise it's just "a form of mars" which is descriptive in a sense, but not really the meaning, it's like defining john as "a form of johnathan".

but it wasn't even that, if they just covered say 30% of their full border (like all of their border with Germany, and Belgium plus some). They would have forced the germans to move through a lot mountains. Even IF you're thinking technology hasn't changed it was positively MORONIC to think that lea...

Re: page 83
Mmm. If I were the Umiak commander (and utilizing the typical Umiak naval doctrine in respect to losses) I would have ordered the heavies and medium vessels with energy weapons to flip over and start decelerating "in block" the moment they charged through the Loroi line. It would keep them longer i...

Re: page 83
Blitzkreig is more the small war (i.e. specific tactics of combat). It was essentially using the increased mobility of mechanized forces and the recent increase in offensive power tanks provided to quickly assault and then outmaneuver the enemy. Ignoring the magnot line was just smart and is an inde...

Re: Imagining realistic energy weapons
It's just a matter of energy output. What would actually happen would depend heavily on the makeup of the planet and how quickly you can put energy into the target. If it just makes the surface molten and allows said liquid to flow back into the path of the beam you'd have to melt the whole planet. ...

Re: page 83
Off Arioch Remember that the Loroi repair their ships and that a given Loroi fleet is more likely to have seen combat than an Umiak fleet (as so many Umiak fleets are destroyed, or at the very least so many Umiak fleets suffer significant losses). Add this to the fact that Umiak are assigned to ship...

Re: STAR DRIVES in Outsider
Digest for the forums: Point to point requiring gravity wells, so it tends to be star to star. Accuracy (and therefore safety) limit the range based on the stars in question. On the small scale not much accuracy so incoming fleets will be scattered (and thus jumping into a defended system can be dan...
